Milton Hydro Distribution Inc., of Milton, Ont., has added a fully electric Ford F150 Lightning to its fleet.
The electric pick-up truck joins a Hyundai Ionic and two hybrid bucket trucks that are already part of the local distribution companyβs fleet. In a July 23 press release, Milton Hydro officials said the F150 Lightning offers operational benefits such as lower maintenance, reduced idle time and emissions, and cost savings on fuel. βWith its efficient performance tailored to the service territory, the electric vehicle enhances operational efficiency while minimizing environmental impact,β they said.
The press release added that, in addition to incorporating electric vehicles to its fleet, Milton Hydro is supporting the adoption of sustainable transportation among its employees by installing level two and level three electric chargers in the parking lot.
βLooking ahead to the electrification of everything, we are thrilled to introduce the Ford F150 Lightning to our fleet, symbolizing our commitment to sustainability and embracing new technologies,β said Milton Hydro president and CEO Troy Hare. βThis marks another important step in our journey towards reducing our environmental footprint and contributing to a greener community.β
Milton Hydro said its efforts mitigate its carbon footprint align with governmental Net Zero Emissions benchmarks for 2030 and 2050. Other Milton Hydro initiatives include the adoption of sustainable energy generation and conservation practices at their headquarters β geothermal heating and cooling systems were implemented in 2016, and solar panels were installed on the roof in 2017 to reduce environmental impact. βCurrently, over 31,000 of (our) 44,000+ customers have opted for paperless billing, reducing the monthly paper usage and delivery impact on the region,β the release said. βThese initiatives are part of a broader approach to sustainability, impacting both operations and community engagement.β
