On August 5, Hyper, a brand under GAC Aion, officially announced its rebranded new name called “HYPTEC” and introduced a new brand color called Hao Shi Orange, aimed to increase its international market share.
According to the official introduction, HYPTEC consists of “HYP” and “TEC”. The former is derived from Hyper and HyperCar, representing extreme, extraordinary, and top-notch; the latter is derived from Technology, representing science, technology, and craftsmanship.
GAC Aion launched Hyper in September 2022 to increase its share in the high-end new energy vehicle market. Currently, the Hyper brand sells the following models:
- Hyper SSR (see spec here): 1.286 million to 1.686 million yuan (180,000 – 236,000 USD)
- Hyper GT (see spec here): 203,900 – 259,900 yuan (28,600 – 36,500 USD)
- Hyper HT (see spec here): 213,900 – 329,900 yuan (30,000 – 46,300 USD)
In the first half of 2024, GAC’s new energy vehicle sales volume was 164,100 units, a year-on-year decrease of 30.61%. In particular, GAC Aion sold 126,300 vehicles in the same period, a year-on-year decrease of 39.65%, with an average monthly sales volume of 21,000 vehicles. It is worth pointing out that GAC Aion’s annual sales target for 2024 was 700,000 vehicles, but the brand only achieved 18% of the target in the first half of the year.
Gu Huinan, general manager of GAC Aion, revealed that the brand is actively investigating markets in Europe, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and East Asia, and hopes to establish corresponding bases in these regions in the next two to three years.
Furthermore, in the second half of this year, GAC Aion and Hyper planned to launch four new models, which included the Hyper GT global model that was launched in early June, with a price range of 203,900 – 259,900 yuan, as well as a new large six-seater SUV called the Hyper AH8, which is scheduled to be launched in September and is currently in the testing phase.
