Every New Electric Truck You Can Buy in 2024: EV Haulers

They’re big, heavy, and expensive, but all-electric powered pickups are seeing their ranks expand.

Effortless power, substantial towing capacity, and extreme efficiency are all hallmarks of the new echelon of electric trucks. Many startups and legacy automakers have fought to get their biggest electric vehicles to market, and now over a half dozen EV trucks are available or due to be available in 2024. Electric pickups may be strong tow vehicles on paper, but many still struggle to tow long distances without using up gobs of precious driving range. That bugaboo aside, many of these rigs have proven to be some of the most exhilarating lifestyle trucks ever built, with jaw-dropping performance and silly driving characteristics joining useful onboard power outlets capable of running an entire tailgate, camping trip, or even your house when the grid goes down. Here is every electric pickup truck on sale in 2024:

2024 Tesla Cybertruck

As far as lifestyle trucks go, the purposely controversial 2024 Tesla Cybertruck is the most flamboyant. From the outside in, the entire being of the Cybertruck is the personification of Tesla’s middle-finger mentality toward the mainstream auto industry. The exterior isn’t so much design-first as it is design-only, to the point where every opinion is a strong opinion, either positive or negative, with little in between. Besides the angular, less-than-practical bodywork, the Cybertruck does contain some genuine innovations, like its 48-volt electrical system and mind-bending drive-by-wire steering. A 2.5 second 0–60 time is also nothing to mock. Just watch your limbs around the sharp-edged doors and frunk lid.

In an era when cool concepts are increasingly going into production almost unchanged, the 2025 Ram 1500 Rev did the opposite. A wild and interesting three-row pickup concept of the same name made way for what’s effectively a standard Ram 1500 with a new grille and lights, but what’s under the skin is still worth a look. Brute-force battery size is the Ram’s strategy for range, with a massive 168-kWh pack as standard and a 229-kWh pack waiting in the wings. The former should allow for 350 miles of range, according to Ram’s estimates. Ram says the enormous 229-kWh pack will be good for 500 miles, which would make it the longest-range EV pickup available. All those kilowatt-hours of battery space need quick charging to be worthwhile, and Ram says 350-kW charging will be possible. If you want to tow long distances occasionally while enjoying electric motoring closer to home, the upcoming Ram 1500 Ramcharger is essentially a Rev with a smaller battery pack and a gas range-extender that allows for up to nearly 700 miles of range without worrying about finding chargers along the way.

Three of the seven EV pickups are GM products built on the Ultium platform, with the 2024 GMC Sierra EV being the last of the trio to hit the market. Similar to its Hummer EV and Silverado EV siblings, the Sierra EV gets four-wheel steering, Super Cruise hands-free driving tech, and a 0–60 time that will shove you back into the seat; GMC estimates 4.4 seconds, which is stratospheric performance for something in the weight class of an F-350 dually. The orbital-class acceleration of the Hummer EV is skipped in favor of practical features like the pass-through midgate, 400 miles of estimated range, and a general focus on actual truck usage rather than showing off.

Arriving to market in numbers before its Sierra counterpart, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV ushers in the era of the $70,000 work truck, or at least it will try to. Beyond the few WT trims floating around for commercial customers, the only trim available to order as of publication time is the nearly six-figure First Edition RST. Under the skin, the Silverado EV is similar to its higher-end Sierra sibling, and it carries the same set of features. The trade-off for its somewhat lower pricing is less theatricality and further focus on just truck things.Β A 200-kWh battery pack is standard on the Silverado EV RST, as is 350-kW charging speed.

The top of the General Motors Ultium truck line is the properly bonkers 2024 GMC Hummer EV. Capable of accelerating you from a dead stop to 60 mph in roughly the same time as jumping off a cliff would, the Hummer EV was the fastest-accelerating pickup truck we’d ever tested before the Cybertruck came onto the scene. 4×4 capability off-road is also impressive with the right tires. Beyond that, its array of party tricks means there’s always something else to show off to friends, whether its four-wheel steering, the ability to crab walk, the adjustable-height suspension, its T-tops, or just silly-fun handling. It’s not meant to be a workhorse. It’s built to be a party animal.

By contrast, the 2024 Ford F-150 Lightning is clearly among the most conventional-looking EV trucks currently on sale, right up there with the Ram 1500 Rev. Extremely practical, the Lightning resembles a normal F-150 and has a large frunk, the ability to power your house in a pinch, and plenty of torque to put a smile on your face. Despite all its practicality and capability, the Lightning still isn’t a one-to-one replacement for all full-size truck capabilities.Β It suffers range degredation when towing, as does every other type of vehicle, EV or otherwise, though due to their high base efficiency and low energy density, electric vehicles suffer worse than others, and as with all EV trucks, charging with a trailer attached is impractical. Towing short distances is a snap in the Lightning, as it is with most other EV trucks, but don’t expect to go 200 miles at a time with a 10,000-pound load.

Our favorite electric truck, the 2024 Rivian R1T, earned that status by being both an incredible plaything and a truck of surpassing practicality. Acceleration and handling are up there with high-end sports cars, even on dirt. Meanwhile, features like the frunk, gear tunnel, and up to 11,000 pounds of towing capacity let you do more with the R1T than conventional pickups in just about every way besides long-distance towing. While new electric trucks are coming onto the market, only Rivian seems to have cracked the code of building both a toy with six-figure performance and a practical conveyance that can take everything you need along for the ride. As a 4×4 it’s very hard to match, and it’s still the most efficient EV truck on sale. The lack of physical controls dents its cabin’s usability somewhat, and its not as large as the other domestic (read: full-size) EV trucks on sale, but none of that keeps it from the top spot in our list of EV trucks.

2024 Rivian R1T Pros, Cons, and Specs
ProsImpressive rangeExcellent driving dynamicsTrue versatilityConsSmall compared to full-size pickupsOver-reliance on touch controlsOffered in just one body configurationPrice: $71,700Powertrain: 2–4 elec motors, 533–1,025 hp/610–1,198 lb-ftFuel Economy: 72–84 mpg-eRange: 255–410 milesPayload: 1,760 poundsTowing capacity: 11,000 poundsWhat’s the Cheapest Electric Truck?

For now, the Ford F-150 Lightning is, hovering around the mid-$60,000 range to start. For that price you get the base XLT trim, which comes with dual-motor all-wheel drive as standard, 775 lb-feet of torque, and 240 miles of range. Performance isn’t necessarily lacking, especially considering the trim’s 7,700-pound towing capacity, but that range figure shows that a β€œcheap” electric truck is somewhat compromised.

What Electric Trucks Qualify for a Tax Credit in 2024?

Because the federal EV tax credit only applies in full to vehicles under $80,000, the headline-grabbing EV trucks largely don’t apply. The cheapest F-150 Lightning variants qualify, as do 2023 model-year Rivian R1Ts under the $80,000 mark. Some dealers may pass tax credits on for leased vehicles over the $80,000 mark, but in general most who can afford the higher-end EV trucks of the present don’t need a tax credit anyway.

Which EV Truck Can Tow the Most?

Both the mightiest Tesla Cybertruck and Ram 1500 Rev are rated for 14,000 pounds of towing capacity. Interestingly, trucks that are less aerodynamic take less of a range hit when saddled with trailers, so it would be interesting to see which of these two behemoths could tow the same load the greater distance. While the Cyberbtruck and Ram Rev are the capacity kings here, the Rivian R1T isn’t too far behind at 11,000 pounds, and the GMC trucks are both rated for 10,000 pounds, as is the Lightning.
