On September 6, the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture opened the EV variant of its Wuling Hongguang MPV for pre-sale, available in two trims, with a price range of 69,800 β 72,800 yuan (9,850 β 10,300 USD). The official launch is expected to be later this year. For reference, the price range of the Wuling Hongguang gasoline-powered variant on sale is 46,500 β 60,900 yuan (6,600 β 8,600 USD).
Since its launch in 2010, the Wuling Hongguang has sold 5.91 million units in 14 years. The official positioned the Wuling Hongguang EV as the βworldβs first 60,000-yuan-level pure electric rear-wheel drive MPVβ. (60,000 yuan is 8,500 USD).
The Wuling Hongguang EV has undergone a design change in the front, giving off a more rounded outline and a closed face, which is inline with the design trend of new energy vehicles. The brand logo is moved to the hood. Additionally, the tail shape is simple, with an overall square appearance. The official also claimed that the vehicle has been optimized with 14 low-drag details.
The Wuling Hongguang EV measures 4515/1725/1790 mm, which is slightly longer than the current version on sale, and the wheelbase is 2850 mm. The curb weight is 1275 kg.
Consumers can choose from three exterior paints: Polar White, Clear Sky Silver, and Tungsten Steel Gray.
Power comes from an electric motor with a maximum power of 75 kW (101 hp) and a peak torque of 180 Nm, paired with a 32.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack. The CLTC cruising range is 300 km. Under DC fast charging, it takes 30 minutes to replenish the battery from 30% to 80%. Under AC slow charging, the charging time from 20% to 100% is 9.8 hours. The top speed is 135 km/h.
The interior features rectangular air-conditioning outlets, various control knobs, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. In terms of safety configurations, the Wuling Hongguang EV is equipped with an anti-lock braking system, an electronic brakeforce distribution system, and an optional driver airbag. The 8-inch floating central control screen is also optional.
Other configurations include key fob, one-touch lowering of the driverβs side window, 12V on-board power supply, and radio.
Furthermore, the Wuling Hongguang EV offers two seat layouts: five-seater (2+3) and six-seater (2+2+2). The second-row seats in the five-seater version can be folded down while all three rows of seats in the six-seater version can be folded down. The maximum trunk volume can reach 2.8 m3.
