GAC Aion RT opened pre-sales starting at 17,100 USD

GAC Aionโ€™s RT all-electric sedan is heading towards commercialization fast. It was just revealed by the Chinese MIIT earlier this month immediately followed by the official image release. And on September 26, the car started pre-sales available in four trims, with a price range of 119,800 โ€“ 169,800 yuan (17,100 โ€“ 24,200 USD). Its official Chinese name is Velociraptor. Once launched, the Aion RT will compete with models such as the Xpeng Mona M03 (see spec here).

Positioned as a medium-size sedan, the Aion RT sits on the AEP 3.0 pure electric platform and measures 4865/1875/1520 mm, with a 2775 mm wheelbase. The exterior is standard for a new energy sedan on the Chinese market with a closed front face, sharp headlights, hidden door handles, and through-type taillights.

Additionally, the Aion RT is equipped with a 126-line variable-focus lidar, three millimeter-wave radars, and 11 cameras, paired with a NVIDIA Orin X intelligent driving chip, without requiring high-precision maps, to realize end-to-end assisted driving capabilities on highways and urban roads, according to the official.

The assisted driving capabilities include obstacle detection and avoidance.

The cockpit is vibrant with an orange backdrop, featuring a combination of an 8.8-inch instrument panel and a 14.6-inch central control screen powered by the ADiGO 5.0 system, as well as minimal physical buttons and 11 speakers.

The interior is covered in a large area of soft wrapping and the seats are filled with double-layer high-density sponge, the brand claimed. There are also two electric panoramic sunroofs.

The front seats can be folded down with one button. The trunk space is 540 L, which can accommodate four 24-inch and a 20-inch suitcase. The rear headroom is 940 mm and the legroom is 943 mm.

Furthermore, the Aion RT provides two power versions, 150 kW (201 hp) and 165 kW (221 hp), with a front electric motor. The lithium iron phosphate battery pack is supplied by the CATL-GAC joint venture, with two capacities to choose from, 55.1 kWh and 68.1 kWh, corresponding to 520 km and 650 km CLTC ranges. The power consumption is 11.7 kWh/100 km.

With the carโ€™s 400V silicon carbide 3C fast charging technology, replenishing a 200 km range takes 10 minutes and the battery by 50% takes 18 minutes.
