Changanโs Deepal Auto unveiled the specifications for its first compact SUV, the Deepal S05. The Deepal S05 is available in two power-train options: pure electric and extended-range. Thereโs a total of five trims available to choose from.
The official launch is set for October 20th. Pre-orders began on September 20th, with a deposit of 1000 yuan (140 USD) which can be upgraded to 3000 yuan (425 USD). Interestingly, the retail price is yet to be confirmed.
Deepal S05 design overview
The Deepal S05 adopts a design differing from previous Deepal models, featuring a sportier appearance. The car features a closed front grille combined with a three-segment lower air intake. The car measures at 4620/1900/1600 mm, with a 2880 wheelbase.
Depending on the trim, the car will offer features such as an electric trunk, illuminated ring lights, and pixelated headlights. All versions will come with frame-less doors and hidden door handles as standard.
The interior adopts a two-tone color scheme, with chrome accents around all the edges. Additionally, the vehicle features hidden air conditioning vents, a 15.4 center control screen, and intelligent cruise control.
The Deepal S05 most notably lacks a traditional instrument panel behind the wheel and instead opts for a large HUD. All models come with the Qualcomm SA8155P automotive chip installed.
The extended-range version of the Deepal S05 uses a 1.5L range extender system, with a maximum power of 72 kW for the extender and 160 kW for the electric motor. This power-train is paired with a 27.28 kWh battery pack. This version has a pure electric range of 200 km. The pure electric version features a 175 kW electric motor paired with a 56.12 LFP battery pack, providing a CLTC range estimate of 510 km.
The Deepal S05 is the first entry-level SUV from the brand. Deepal has seen an upwards trend in their sales, delivering 120,710 units from January to August of this year. Most of the details have been revealed by the manufacturer, yet we are still awaiting the official price announcement.
