On October 24th, BYD officially opened its “Di Space” New Energy Science Museum in Zhengzhou, China. The museum, created by BYD for the public, integrates automotive culture, design, and technology into one space, making it China’s first NEV museum.
This move is part of BYD’s broader strategy to enhance offline brand engagement and create avenues to interact with local communities. The museum aims to provide visitors with a comprehensive learning experience, allowing them to explore the field of new energy vehicles.
Di Space exhibitions
The Di Space is located in a core commercial area of Zhengzhou, Henan and covers around 15,000 square meters and consists of four floors. The exhibition is divided into four main sections: “Brand Culture”, “Craftsmanship and Intelligent Manufacturing”, “Innovative Technology”, and “Tech Exploration”. With over 300 exhibits, the museum aims to be a one-stop shop for people to learn about the NEV space.
Each floor covers a different section, with the first floor exploring the evolution of the Chinese NEV industry. The second floor covers the process of how vehicles are built and the engineering behind the auto manufacturing process. The third floor covers BYD technologies such as the Blade Battery and the fifth-generation DM-i technology. The fourth floor and top floor is an interactive space allowing students to engage in hands-on activities.
In addition to the fixed exhibition areas, the Di Space includes a 8,500 square meter outdoor plaza and an 360 square meter in-door event space. These areas will hold BYD launches, temporary exhibitions, and additional offline events.
Through the Di Space, BYD aims to both educate and promote the NEV industry to the general public. As the adoption of new energy vehicles increases in China, brands are ramping up their offline engagement with consumers to sell not just their products, but the benefits of owning a new energy vehicle.
Battery manufacturing giant, CATL, has done something similar by opening up the CATL New Energy Plaza in Chengdu, where they exhibit over 100 models all using CATL batteries. CATL’s event space allows visitors to learn about CATL’s battery technology, while also exploring dozens of NEV brands all in one space.
BYD opened its first factory in Zhengzhou in 2023. There, they are currently producing models such as the BYD Seal, BYD Shark, and Fang Cheng Bao Bao 5. The newly opened Di Space further reinforces BYD’s commitment to the city, positioning Zhengzhou as a key location for the brand’s outreach and NEV production efforts.
