Seres revealed exterior of the upcoming Aito M8 SUV

Seres applied for the patent images of the new Aito M8 SUV in China. This vehicle adopts the new exterior design language. A Chinese enthusiast has prepared unofficial render images of the Aito’s newest model.

Aito is a joint project between Seres and Huawei. It is worth noting that this brand isn’t a joint venture. In July 2024, Seres bought the Aito trademark and patents from Huawei in a 2.5-million yuan (344 million USD) deal. Huawei still acts as a major parts and software supplier. Moreover, Huawei sells Aito-branded cars in its own HIMA sales network.

Seres is responsible for platform development, manufacturing, and overseas sales. This model of cooperation proved to be successful as the Aito’s sales volume reached 289,479 units from January to September 2024. The current Aito model line comprises three crossovers: M5, M7, and M9. Soon, Aito will launch one more SUV, presumably called Aito M8. Its first images were revealed online as Seres has applied for patents.

Aito M8 patent images

Patent images revealed the upcoming Aito M8 crossover adopts the new design language. Its main feature is headlights. Two LED running light strips join them. There is another variant of this exterior styling with a single LED strip. According to previous spy shots, the upcoming Maextro sedan from Huawei and JAC will adopt the same headlight design. It means it will become a new standard for vehicles sold by HIMA Network.

The Aito M8 has a closed front end with no radiator grille. Its front bumper adopts a large trapeze-shaped air intake. The M8 has blackened pillars and a roof. Its other features are retractable door handles and a LiDAR sensor mounted on the roof. From the back, the Aito M8 adopts slightly slanted D-pillars, a single taillight unit, and a rear bumper with integrated reflectors.

The Aito M8 in the patent images adopts 10-spoke rims with special covers to reduce drag. The brand’s flagship SUV Aito M9 (see specs) adopts the same rim design. These rims have a diameter of 21 inches. The overall styling of the Aito M8 resembles Li Auto L-series crossovers. These similarities become more apparent in unofficial render images of the Aito M8.

In August 2024, the Aito M8 crossover was spotted in China during road tests wearing heavy camouflage. It will have a very similar interior to that of the Aito M9. The M8’s specs have yet to be revealed.
