Smart #5 all-electric SUV launched starting at 33,700 USD

On October 27, the Smart #5 officially entered the market with a total of 4 trims, priced between 239,900 – 368,000 yuan (33,700 – 51,700 USD).

The Smart #5 is positioned as a pure electric mid-size SUV and is the largest model currently sold by the brand, following Mercedes-Benz’s “Sensual and Sharp” design philosophy. Consumers can choose from eight exterior paints and six interior colors.

Smart #5 Jungle Realm Limited Edition

It is worth pointing out that the Jungle Realm Limited Edition is equipped with an outdoor adventure package, including an X-shaped painted roof platform, luggage racks, a small container on the side of the car, a side ladder, side steps, and a hidden trailer connector, with a towing capacity of 1.6 tons/1,451 kg. The luggage racks support a static load of 240 kg and a dynamic load of 100 kg. The trunk is also equipped with a 220 V power interface to support the V2L external discharge function.

The length, width, and height of the Smart #5 are 4705/1920/1705 (1830) mm, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2900 mm. Its ground clearance range is 156 mm to 231 mm, depending on the trim configurations.

The Smart #5 is offered in RWD and AWD. The RWD is divided into a 250 kW (335 hp)/373 Nm and 267 kW (358 hp)/373 Nm SiC permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The former is equipped with a 76 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack and the latter is equipped with a 100 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, providing a corresponding CLTC range of 570 km and 740 km. The fastest 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 6.5 seconds and the fastest charging time is less than 15 minutes to replenish from 30% to 80%.

The AWD has a combined maximum power of 432 kW (579 hp), the front asynchronous motor outputs 165 kW (221 hp)/270 Nm while the rear motor outputs 310 kW (416 hp)/440 Nm. The 0 – 100 km/h acceleration time is 4.9 seconds. The 100 kWh ternary lithium battery pack provides a CLTC range of 580 km.

Three standard driving modes are supported, namely, energy saving, comfort, and sports. The AWD also supports an all-terrain driving mode.

Inside, the cockpit is equipped with a 25.6-inch AR-HUD, a 10.3-inch LCD instrument panel, and a dual 13-inch AMOLED 2.5K central control screen & co-pilot entertainment screen, powered by an AMD V2000 chip.

The RWD comes with nine speakers while the AWD comes with a Sennheiser audio package.

There are 34 storage spaces throughout the interior, a 72 L front trunk, and a 110 L “bottom hidden space” in the rear trunk. The standard rear trunk volume is 630 L and can be expanded to 1530 L. Smart also claimed the#5 is the first to be equipped with a 233-inch automotive-grade full-color laser projector.

In terms of safety, the Smart #5 features the smart Pilot Assist 3.0 intelligent driving assistance system powered by dual Nvida Drive OrinX autonomous driving chips, realizing 23 standard capabilities including traffic jam assist, blind spot monitoring, forward/rear collision mitigation, lane change assist, and parking assist.

Furthermore, there are eight airbags throughout the vehicle: two front airbags, two front side airbags, two side curtain airbags, a far-side airbag, and an optional zero-gravity seat cushion airbag.
