Luxeed R7 hits 30,000 orders in first month as Chery-Huawei’s first electric SUV

The Luxeed R7, developed through a partnership between Chery and Huawei under the Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA), has accumulated over 30,000 non-refundable orders in its first 33 days on the market. As the first electric coupe SUV from HIMA and Luxeed’s second release after the S7 sedan, the R7 garnered over 6,000 orders within its initial 24 hours and surpassed 20,000 orders by the two-week mark.

The R7 is a large coupe-style SUV, measuring 4,956 mm in length, 1,981 mm in width, and 1,634 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. The vehicle is built with a “One-Box” design and includes a 192-line lidar on the roof, with 20- or 21-inch wheels and six color options: Phantom Purple, Sunlight Blue, Ceramic White, Deep Space Gray, Gilded Black, and Metropolitan Red. The drag coefficient stands at 0.219, one of the lowest for SUVs in production. The R7 offers both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) models, powered by a 215 kW motor for the RWD version and a 365 kW dual-motor setup for AWD, allowing an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. Built on an 800V platform, the R7 can recharge for a 400 km range within 15 minutes.

Inside, the R7 features Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4, a 12.3-inch driver display, a 15.6-inch central control screen, and wireless charging. Interior colors include White Sand Apricot, Amber Brown, Feather Red, and Truffle Brown. Cargo space offers 837 liters, which expands to 2,130 liters when the rear seats are folded. An additional 52 liters are in the front trunk, accessible via a double tap on the hood when parked.

The Pro version has a range of up to 667 km, while the Max and Ultra versions, equipped with a 100 kWh battery, provide ranges of 802 km and 736 km, respectively, as measured by CLTC standards. Built on the TuLing platform, the R7 incorporates intelligent vehicle state perception (iVSE) to adapt to varied road conditions, with Huawei’s QianKun ADS 3.0 driving assistance standard on the Pro trim and lidar-based assistance on the Max and Ultra models.

The R7 also includes variable damping and air suspensions, a double-wishbone front, and a multi-link rear suspension. The vehicle’s adaptive downhill cruise control and energy recuperation systems reduce brake usage, with braking intervention reportedly less than that required by the Tesla Model Y and BMW X6. Deliveries of the Max and Ultra trims began on October 15, and the Pro model is expected to be released on November 15.
