In the fourth week of October, week 43, Chinaβs EV market was mostly up, with several exceptions. Xiaomi grew 1.79%, BYD grew 6.70%, Nio grew 7.69%, and Tesla was down 20.45% compared with the previous week.
Week 43 of 2024 was between October 21 and 27. Week 43 of 2023, used for year-on-year comparison, was between October 23 and 29.
The weekly sales are published by Li Auto, and despite Liβs not explicitly saying it, they are based on insurance registration data. The numbers are rounded and present new energy vehicles (NEV) sales, the Chinese term for BEVs, PHEVs, and EREVs (range extenders). To be completely precise, it also includes hydrogen vehicles (FCEVs), but their sales are almost non-existent in China.
Xiaomi reported 5,700 registrations, a slight increase of 1.79% from the previous weekβs 5,600 units. Xiaomiβs total registrations for October have reached 19,700.
Nio registration numbers are only for the Nio brand and donβt include Onvo. Onvo registered 1,200 units of its L60 SUV, up 28.6% from 933 units the week before, according to China EV DataTracker.
