Changan Automobile recently released its sales figures for October 2024. The company reported total sales of 250,832 spread across its different business units and brands, marking a 4.1% year-over-year growth.
Sales of the Changanβs new energy vehicles (NEVs) totaled 85,272 units, showing a significant 48.6% increase year-over-year. Similarly, overseas sales saw a strong increase of 33.9% year-over-year, with a total of 30,831 units sold in October.

As Chinaβs oldest auto manufacturer, Changan has undergone a significant overhaul to shift towards sustainability and NEVs. Beginning in 2017, the group has developed several new NEV brands such as Deepal, Avatar, and Changan Nevo, while also building NEVs under its own marquee.
Changan Nevo (also known as Changan Qiyuan) is Changanβs entry level EV line. The brand recorded sales of 18,050 units in October.Β
Deepal, Changanβs mid-range brand, sold a total of 28,730 units. Total orders for October reached a new high of 36,277 units and deliveries totaled up to 27,862 units. October sales were notably boosted by the newly launched Deepal S05 SUV, which had over 10,000 units within the first 10 days of its release.
Avatr, Changanβs premium EV brand, reported 10,056 units sold in October. Avatr sales were similarly aided by the launch of the new model, the extended-range Avatr 12 mid-size sedan. The joint venture led by Changan and supported by CATL and Huawei faced sluggish sales in the past, but have bet on EREVs to win over consumers.Β
In terms of other segments, Changanβs own brand recorded 108,209 units sold in October. Changan Ford reached 19,789 units, and Changan Mazda sold 7,521 units, including the newly launched Mazda EZ-6, starting at 139,800 yuan (19,700 USD).
With several new models launched in October, Changan will likely maintain this positive momentum following months to come. Changan stands out as a rare example of a successful state-owned-manufacturer (SOE). The company has, so far, been successful in decreasing its reliance on foreign joint-ventures for sales, and instead used its NEV brands to drive growth.Β
