Nio added a total of 83 swap stations compatible with the Onvo brand over the week from October 28 to November 3. This brings the total to date to 644.
31 of the total stations added during the week were fourth-generation stations, and the remaining 52 were upgrades to third-generation stations. In addition, Nio added 15 supercharging stations and 1 charging station for Onvo usage.
Earlier this year, Nio promised that by the end of the year, there would be over 1,000 swap stations available to Onvo owners. All fourth-generation swap stations are compatible with the Onvo brand. Onvo cannot use first and second-generation stations. Third-generation stations need to be specially modified for compatibility. It is believed that the modification costs between 200,000 and 300,000 yuan (28,100 – 42,200 USD). Onvo users have also been promised 20,000 self-built charging piles, although it is not clear if these are branded as Nio or Onvo. All swap stations are branded as Nio but allow Onvo usage.
The 644 swap stations total includes 173 fourth-generation and 471 upgraded third-generation stations. Nio claims there will be 2,500 compatible stations by the end of 2025.
Deliveries of Onvo’s first model, the L60, commenced in September, and October was the first full month of deliveries. During October, 4,319 cars were delivered, bringing the cumulative deliveries up to 5,151 cars. The rate and delivery allocation of the Onvo L60 have been criticized.
The Onvo L60 is available with 60 and 85 kWh battery packs priced between 206,900 yuan (29,250 USD) and 255,900 yuan (36,300 USD). It is available in single- and dual-motor versions. The car can also be purchased without a battery, with the pack being a monthly rental, reducing the purchase cost for the single-motor version to 149,900 yuan (21,200 USD).
Aimed as a Tesla Model Y competitor, the car measures 4828, 1930, and 1616 mm (l/w/h) with a wheelbase of 2950 mm, making the Onvo (see specs) overall larger.
The Onvo L60’s drag coefficient is Cd 0.229, which helps reduce its energy consumption to as low as 12.1 kWh/100 km for the single-motor version and 12.7 kWh/100 km for the dual-motor version.
CLTC range for the single-motor version fitted with the 60 kWh pack is either 555 or 525 km, and for the dual-motor version range, it is either 525 or 501 km. Meanwhile, the 85 kWh battery pack offers up to 730 km range for the single-motor L60 and 700km for the dual-motor.
Buyers have the option of BaaS (battery as a service) where the rental for the 60 kWh pack is 599 yuan (85 USD) a month and for the 85 kWh pack 899 yuan (125 USD) a month.
A second Onvo model, a larger SUV, is set to launch in 2025.
