Luxeed R7 from Huawei and Chery exposed with EREV powertrain

The EREV (range extended) variant of the Luxeed R7 fastback SUV from Huawei and Chery revealed specs in China. Its electric variant got 30,000 firm orders 33 days after the launch. Now, Huawei and Chery are getting ready to launch the R7 EREV in China as hybrid cars are gaining momentum.

Luxeed is a joint project between Chery and Huawei launched in 2023. Its current model line comprises the S7 electric sedan (see specs) and R7 electric crossover (see specs). Chery is responsible for the development and production of Luxeed cars, while Huawei supplies key components and the OS. Most importantly, Huawei sells Luxeed vehicles in its HIMA network next to Aito and Stelato models.

From January to October 2024, the Chery-Huawei joint brand sold 21,422 units domestically. It isn’t a significant number, judging by the Chinese automotive industry standards. In late September, Luxeed launched the all-electric R7 fastback SUV. It aims to improve the brand’s sales performance. 33 days after the launch, the Luxeed R7 received over 30,000 firm orders. To keep the momentum high, Chery and Huawei prepared to launch the EREV variant of this crossover.

More about Luxeed R7 EREV

The exterior styling of the Luxeed R7 EREV stays in line with its all-electric twin. It has a closed front end with slim LED headlights joined by a thin running light strip. It has a low beltline and a slanted roofline. Other features of the Luxeed R7 are retractable door handles, glossy bumpers, and a ducktail spoiler. The EREV variant of this vehicle can be distinguished by a unique air intake in the front bumper. This fastback SUV can be equipped with an optional LiDAR sensor on the roof.

Dimensions of the Luxeed R7 are 4956/1981/1634 mm with a wheelbase of 2950 mm. It has relatively small front and rear overhangs of 914 and 1092 mm, respectively. Approach and departure angles are 16 and 18 degrees. The R7 EREV rides on 225/50 R20 or 255/45 R21 wheels. It has five seats inside. The curb weight of this vehicle reaches 2,298 kg. The gross weight is 2,735 kg.

Luxeed R7 EREV powertrain

There is little information about the powertrain of the Luxeed R7 EREV. To begin with, this vehicle stands on the E0X modular architecture designed by Chery. It already underpins such cars as Luxeed S7, Exeed Exlantix ES, and Exeed Exlantix ET. Later, the E0X platform will underpin Freelander vehicles developed by Chery Jaguar Land Rover.

Back to the Luxeed R7 EREV, it has the 1.5-liter turbocharged SQRH4J15 engine from Chery’s Acteco with a peak power output of 115 kW (154 hp). There is no information about electric motors and the battery of the Luxeed R7. The Chinese regulator mentioned that the top speed of the R7 EREV is 200 km/h. The fuel consumption of the range extender is 0.46 L/100km.

Exeed Exlantix ET

We know that the E0X-based Exlantix ET crossover from Chery adopts a single e-motor in the rear axle for 195 kW (261 hp). A CATL-made 32-kWh LFP battery powers the e-motor. The electric range of the Exlantix ET is 200 km (CLTC). And a mixed range reaches 1,518 km (CLTC). Chery also introduced the 4WD variant of the Exlantix ET for overseas markets. It has a 43 kWh battery, two e-motors for 469 hp, and a mixed range of 1,238 km (WLTC). The Luxeed R7 EREV may adopt a similar powertrain.
