We now know that the first car from the Huawei JAC tie-up brand Maextro will be called the S800 and will be officially unveiled at the Huawei Mate brand ceremony on November 26. Before that, we have a teaser picture of the tail light along with some additional details.
Richard Yu (Yu Chengdong), chairman of Huaweiβs smart car unit, has previously said that the new car will be βvery respectful, very big, very bright.β The teaser picture of the through taillight certainly reflects that. We can see that it forms a Milky Way-type effect with countless little stars. This will likely be achieved through multiple light sources. Furthermore, on top of those is the name Maextro written in bold Latin letters.
Yu has also provided further details about the car, saying, βThe Maextro S800 is very large, probably surpassing 99.99% of cars on the road, reaching about 5.5 meters, and at the same time, it is not only large in appearance but also has a large interior space.β This is significantly longer than the previously expected length of around 5200 mm.
Chinese media expects the actual length to be around 5480 millimeters rather than exceeding 5.5 meters. This means that the car reaches the D+ Β size level and is comparable to that of the Maybach version of the S class and the Rolls Royce Ghost. The difference, of course, is that the S800 is fully electric.
Other known information about the Maestro S800 includes that it will have four logos with two on the side in addition to those at the front and rear. There is meant to be a new form of door handle described as βstar pickingβ and is claimed to be some sort of hollowed-out structure.
The car will be available in two-tone colors and an all-black version. It will have 21-inch wheels, and the front headlight design is said to be quite unique.
It was previously thought that the car might debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show. This obviously did not happen, but Autohome reports that some private viewings were conducted at the show.
The S800 will launch in the spring of 2025, and itβs believed that a second Maextro model will launch by the end of 2025. The second model could well be the much-talked-about MPV that Huawei is meant to be working on with one of the brands.
Itβs believed that the S800 sits on the JAC X6 platform. Testing spy shots clearly show that the car has a LIDAR sensor mounted on its roof. We can expect the car to have high-level ADAS and an infotainment system from Huawei.
The S800 will be assembled at JACβs newly constructed factory. Leaked JAC documents show that the company plans to produce 35,000 of the sedan each year. However, the plant capacity is actually 200,000, indicating that new models should be added to the Maextro brand line-up soon.
Maextro is the latest brand in the all-encompassing HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) level, where Huawei not only provides an intelligent cockpit and intelligent driving solution but is also involved with elements including the design, production, sales, after-sales, and other stages of the vehicle but stops short of actually producing the car. Furthermore, Maextro is believed to have the highest level of positioning among the four brands currently within HIMA. The S800 is believed to cost around 1 million yuan (140,000 USD).
HIMA already sells cars from three brands: Aito (Huawei & Seres), Luxeed (Huawei & Chery), and Stelato (Huawei & BAIC).
