The friendship between Xpeng and Volkswagen started in 2023, when the German automaker invested 700 million USD in the Chinese startup, obtaining around 5%. Two companies cooperated in the fields of intelligent tech and electric architecture. Volkswagen announced it will launch the production of two models based on Xpengβs E/E architecture in 2026. In early 2025, Xpeng and VW strengthened their relations by signing the MOU.

On January 6, Xpeng and Volkswagen China announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU). The two parties reached a strategic cooperation in the field of domestic fast-charging networks. The first step of this cooperation is sharing their fast chargers with each other. In the future, the two companies will create a joint brand of fast charging stations in China.
It is worth mentioning that Xpeng operates 1,790 fast charging stations in China with up to 9,070 piles. With strategic cooperation, Xpeng and VW will provide clients with over 20,000 charging piles in 420 cities across China. It is an important step for the long-term cooperation between Xpeng and Volkswagen Group. These companies plan to further explore strategic cooperation opportunities, expand technical cooperation, and strengthen the partnership.
We will remind you that Xpeng has S4 charging stations in China with a peak power of 480 kW and a current of 670 A. The company claims these stations can charge 200 km of range in 5 minutes. In September 2024, the company started installing S5 charging stations across China with 800 kW and 800 A. According to the automaker, this station charges 1 km per second.
Volkswagen has a CAMS charging joint venture in China founded in 2019. CAMS was jointly established by Volkswagen Group China, Star Charge, FAW, and JAC. This JV aimed to build 17,000 charging points in China by 2025.
