5-door Wuling Hongguang Mini EV becomes a car you could live with

On January 6, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV five-door pre-opened for reservation with various incentives. More importantly, new details have emerged About the car, which for some reason is referred to in China as a four-door. What is clear is that the second generation Mini EV, at least in its 5-door form, is a far more usable car than the first generation.

Available in three and five-door forms, the second-generation Wuling Hongguang Mini EV Is considerably larger than the first generation. Both the 3-door and 5-door have the same dimensions of 3256 mm length, 1510 mm width, and 1578 mm height. The wheelbase, meanwhile, is 2190 mm. The minimum turning radius is only 4.5 meters.

The first-generation car has a very boxy look about it. For the second generation, it adopts a far more curvy look with a rounded front face and closed front grille.

One of the biggest problems with the first-generation car was that trunk space was pretty well nonexistent, meaning that if you wanted to carry anything, you had to put down one or both the rear seats. On the new five-door version, the trunk space is 123 liters, which means there should be enough space for some shopping.

With the rear seats folded down storage expands up to 745 liters. Furthermore, there are 19 storage spaces spread around the car.

Buyers have a choice of what is billed as three β€œfantasy Haute Couture” colors, namely Bubble Green, Puffed Blue, and Sweet Coffee. These use a 7 coat process. Inside, the car has what Wuling calls a burnt cream interior color, which has an effect somewhat like a crΓ¨me brulee.

The whole level of sophistication of the vehicle has been seriously upped. Inside, there is now an electronic parking brake with auto hold. Furthermore, there is an 8-inch floating infotainment screen with functions such as reversing camera and rear reversing radar. In addition there is non-inductive entry and locking and intelligent power on and off.

Wuling now offers a mobile app for the car, which has functions such as checking the vehicle’s status, remotely controlling the door locks and starting the vehicle, and remotely starting the air conditioner along with scheduling charging. These are all a far cry from the bare-bone nature of the first-generation car.

The first generation Mini EV went from no airbags through one airbag to two airbags. It seems that the second generation Mini EV will, from the start, gain two airbags. Furthermore, it has a ring-shaped cage body, and the proportion of high-strength steel reaches 67%. Moreover, it comes with ESC electronic body stability system.

It uses Wuling’s self-developed Shenlian battery, which has a multifunctional integrated structure and non-igniting cell technology. The battery pack is a 16.2 kWh unit, which is enough to give the car a 205 km range using CLTC measurement. Fast charging gives a 30% to 80% SoC charge in 35 minutes.

The second-generation car rides on the new Tianyu S platform. Power comes from a TZ155XZ230 electric motor with a maximum output of 30 kW. The top speed is capped at 100 km/h.
