The Hongqi EHS7 has launched in China as the Hongqi Tiangong 08. The EHS7 is meant to be Europe bound and European pre-sales began at the Paris Motor Show. Built on the Tiangong modular platform, there are five versions of the new car priced from 239,800 yuan (32,750 USD) to 339,800 yuan. Positioned as a medium to large pure electric SUV, the versions are as follows:
520 Max | 239,800 yuan (32,750 USD) |
605 Max | 249,800 yuan (34,100 USD) |
565 Ultra (four-wheel drive) | 279,800 yuan (38,200 USD) |
730 Max | 309,800 yuan (42,300 USD) |
680 Ultra (four-wheel drive) | 339,800 yuan (46,400 USD) |
The EHS7 Measures 4925 mm in length, 1950 mm in width, and 1680 mm in height; meanwhile, the wheelbase is exactly three meters. The new car is part of the New Energy range from Hongqi, and the design ethos is meant to emphasize the beauty of Chinaβs integration.
At the front, the car has headlights which look like the number 7. There is a similar-looking light cluster at the rear. Hongqiβs new EV is available in six nature-inspired colors: Distant Mountain Purple, Cloud Stream White, Quiet Sea Blue, Quarter Moon Gray, Galaxy Silver, and Polar Night Black.
The car uses air suspension and gains rear-wheel steering. In the future an OTA will allow the car a crab walking mode. The turning radius is 5.3 meters, and the maximum turning angle for the rear wheels is plus or minus 8 degrees.
Inside, the Hongqi EHS7 is really quite different from how most EVs look these days. Firstly, the 15.5-inch infotainment screen is sculpted into the dashboard. This then gradually makes its way into the 6-inch instrument screen.
The Tiangong 08 has an AI voice system using iFlytekβs latest Smart TTS. It supports image and text generation and can achieve clear natural speech synthesis effects. The intelligent experience is said to be comparable to those of the first echelon of the new entrants.
Another surprise is the interior color combinations. The car is available with options of a mauve, electric blue, or a more subdued grey interior.
Heating and ventilation for both the front-row and second-row seats are standard across the range. However, surprisingly, only the driverβs seat has a massage function. Furthermore, all versions apart from the 680 Ultra use imitation leather. The range-topper uses a combination of real and imitation leather.
The trunk space is 643 liters, which is expandable to 2050 liters.
In China, the Hongqi Tiangong 08 is available with three different batteries: 75 kWh, 85 kWh, and 111 kWh. Both the 75 kWh and 85 kWh versions use lithium iron phosphate batteries. The smaller pack is supplied by BYD subsidiary FinDreams and can give the car a maximum range of 520 Km. Fast charging takes about 25 minutes.
CATLβs joint factory with FAW, the parent company of the Hongqi brand, produces the 85 kWh battery pack. This can provide the single motor version with a range of 605 km and the all-wheel drive version with a range of 565 km. Fast charging takes about 20 minutes.
Finally the 111 kWh battery pack provides single motor versions with a range of 730 km and the dual motor version a range of 680 km. As with the 85 kWh version, fast charging takes about 20 minutes.
All versions have a 253 kW electric motor mounted on the rear axle, which can provide up to 450 Nm of torque. Dual motor versions add a 202 kW electric motor to the front axle, which can provide up to 306 Nm of torque.
Dual motor versions have a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds. Single motor versions using the 75 kWh battery pack have an acceleration time of 6.5 seconds, which drops to 6.3 seconds with the 85 kWh battery pack. Single-motor versions have a 15.7 kWh/100 km energy consumption figure, which increases to 16.9 kWh/100 km for the dual-motor version.
The EHS7 will be exported and has already been shown overseas at events such as the Paris Motor Show where it opened European pre-sales. How similar specifications will be to the domestic Tiangong 08 is currently unknown.
