Xpeng G7 revealed by regulator to be brand’s longest electric SUV

This week has been full of information about the upcoming Xpeng G7 SUV. As expected, more information has appeared thanks to a government regulator.

Previously, the head of public relations at Xpeng said that we could expect a powerful new car to be in this monthโ€™s listings from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). As we previously reported it was unclear whether this meant power in the sense of horsepower or whether it meant something more metaphorically.

As we can see in this monthโ€™s MIIT listings, it would appear that the car is more metaphorical. There are two listings, both for a car powered by a 218KW TZ230XY01F30B electric motor supplied by the Wuhan division of Xpeng.

Xpengโ€™s new model is larger than thought, with a length of 4892 mm, a width of 1925 mm, and a height of 1655 mm. This actually makes the G7 longer by all of one millimeter than the G9, which is currently Xpengโ€™s largest SUV. There is, however, a key difference. The wheelbase of the G7 is significantly shorter at 2890 mm compared to the 2998 mm of the G9.

While there are two listings for the car, there are actually four curb weights listed. For the first car, which is presumably the lower spec version, there are weights of 2085 and 2100 kg listed, whereas the other car has weights of 2145 and 2160 kg. Both offer a choice of 18 or 20-inch wheels.

Presumably, the difference in weight is largely accounted for by different battery hack capacities. Both cars use lithium iron phosphate batteries supplied by CALB.

The MIIT information confirms that Xpeng is most likely going to try again a high configuration and relatively low price strategy as used with the Mona M03 and P7+. These two models have managed to turn around Xpengโ€™s sales figures which previously had been stagnating, if not declining.

Prices for the new G7 may start at around 200,000 yuan (27,300 USD). Sales should begin in the first half of 2025.

Itโ€™s believed that the new SUV will focus on intelligence and space. Thanks to the new Hawk AI system Xpeng is able to offer smart driving at a considerably lower cost due to the need of no longer equipping cars with Lidar.
