Huawei release official pictures of largest EV sedan in China

Huawei released official pictures of the massive electric sedan Maextro S800. At 5,480 mm in length, it is the largest EV sedan in China and one of the largest mass-produced sedans in the world.

Maextro is a premium brand from joint venture between Huawei and JAC. S800 is their first car. It has 1,006 horsepower and is designed to rival the Mercedes-Benz Maybach and Nio ET9 in China. For comparison, ET9 is 5,325 mm long, and Maybach S-class is 5,469 mm long.

Maextro S800 started blind pre-orders in November last year. The price was not yet revealed, but customers could reserve the car for a 20,000 yuan deposit. The price is expected to be between 1 – 1.5 million yuan (136k – 205k USD).

The Maextro factory was completed on December 16 in Hefei, where JAC is headquartered. JAC previously manufactured Nio vehicles in Hefei under a contract manufacture agreement before Nio took over the plants.

On December 9, it was revealed that Maextro applied for a sales license of S800 in China. This gave us a glimpse into the powertrain specs.

S800 will come as BEV (battery electric vehicle) and EREV (extended-range electric vehicle). EREV is a type of PHEV where the ICE engine is not directly connected to the wheel, only power battery or e-moor. It is also called series PHEV.

The BEV version has three e-motors: one 160 kW in front and 237.5 kW on each rear axle, providing a combined peak output of 635 kW (852 hp).

EREV version uses a 1.5 T engine as a range extender with a peak power of 115 kW. Only electric motors power the wheels, and there are two trims: dual motors and tri motors. The dual motor trim has one 160 kW e-motor in front and one 230 kW on the rear axle. The tri-motor version has the same setup as BEV, so with the ICE, it has a combined output of 750 kW (1006 hp).

Both versions use a ternary NMC battery from CATL. Currently, no further information is available regarding the battery capacity for the BEV. Still, the EREV has a 63.262 kWh pack, giving an all-electric range of 272 – 371 km under CLTC conditions.

The EV sedan is nearly 5.5 meters long. The exact dimensions are 5480 mm, width of 2000 mm, height of 1536 mm, and wheelbase of 3370 mm. The curb weight of the BEV version is 2731 kg. The curb weight of the EREV tri-motor version is 2859 kg.

On January 15, Huawei released a video of the S800 autonomously finding an EV charger and parking next to it while the robotic arm automatically plugged in and out once charging was finished.

Maextro is Huawei’s fourth brand under their HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) umbrella. The previous ones are Stelato (made by BAIC), Aito (made by Series), and Luxeed (made by Chery).

The Maextro S800 launch has yet to be officially revealed, but CarNewsChina expects it to occur in the year’s second quarter.
