BYD delivered 100 units of Yangwang U9 jumping supercar in 5 months

BYD-backed Yangwang delivered 100 units of the U9 supercar in 5 months. This vehicle is priced at 1,680,000 yuan (229,700 USD). It offers a peak power output of 960 kW (1,287 hp) and up to 450 km of CLTC range. The main feature of this vehicle is the Disus X suspension and hydraulic system, which allows it to jump and dance.

The Yangwang U9 electric sports car entered the Chinese market in February 2024, available in a single trim level for 1,680,000 yuan. However, deliveries of this model started in September. YangWang U9 sold 100 units in China

On January 21, Yangwang announced it had delivered the 100th U9 sports car in China. It means the automaker has sold 19 units of this model so far in January 2025. According to Yangwang, the U9 became the first Chinese supercar to reach this sales volume.

GAC Hyptec SSR

The Yangwang U9’s sales volume is quite impressive, bearing in mind its price tag. For clarity, the Hyptec SSR from GAC sold 19 units in 2024. Moreover, the GAC-backed sports car starts at 1,286,000 yuan in China (175,800 USD). So, it is seemingly cheaper than its rival from BYD.

The high demand for the Yangwang U9 in China is understandable, as BYD marketers are pushing this vehicle hard. In November 2024, the Yangwang U9 completed the Nurburgring Nordschleife lap in 7.17.900. At the same time, the car reached the top speed of 391.94 km/h. In January 2025, BYD released a video of the Yangwang U9 sports car jumping over road spikes while self-driving.

Lots of users try to use these functions on public roads after purchasing the car. However, these actions appear to be illegal as police fined Yangwang U9 drivers multiple times.
