Just the other day, I wrote about Stellantis suspending plans for the Chrysler Airflow EV. Now news is the company is cancelling the Ram 1500 REV.
The news doesnβt come from Stellantis itself. It comes from Mopar Insiders, which reports that Ram has been telling suppliers the Ram 1500 REV is now in a coffin. (Thatβs not literally how theyβve been saying it, as far as I know, but letβs at least have a little fun with the not-so-great news.) While this 500-mile version of the truck using a 229-kWh battery seemingly wonβt be coming, the 350-mile version using a 168-kWh battery pack is still coming (just a bit late).
While the longer-range truck wonβt apparently be coming, Ram says the Ram 1500 REV will come with 800-volt architecture that allows for jacked up charging that will allow the truck to add 110 miles of range in just 10 minutes. That would be on a 350-kW superfast charger.
Originally, the 2025 Ram 1500 REV β first shown in Super Bowl ads in 2023 β was supposed to arrive in late 2024. However, when the company determined that couldnβt happen (or that it wasnβt wise to rush the process), Ram rescheduled to the first half of 2025. However, that timeline target didnβt last too long and the launch target was moved to 2026. Now, a series-hybrid Ram 1500 Ramcharger (with a still quite large 92-kWh battery) is being launched in the first half of this year instead. Have whiplash yet?
So, yet again, Stellantis is not leading on EVs, itβs dragging its feet. Is there a good reason for it this time? Who knows, but itβs been a clear pattern at the large automaker, especially in the US, where the auto group sells almost no electric vehicles.
