Refreshed Tesla Model Y crossovers nicknamed βJuniperβ were spotted on car carriers in China. These are display cars that will soon become available at Tesla showrooms across the Middle Kingdom.
The Tesla Model Y βJuniperβ suddenly launched in China on January 10 with a starting price of 263,500 yuan (35,950 USD), receiving 50,000 orders in a day. On the same day, the refreshed EV applied for a sales license in China, revealing core specs. The car is currently available for order in China in two trim levels: RWD Launch Edition and AWD Long-Range Launch Edition. Their sales deadline is February 28. Deliveries are scheduled for March 2025.
Tesla Model Y βJuniperβ spotted in China
As mentioned, a few batches of Tesla Model Y crossovers were seen in China on a car carrier. These vehicles have blue sponges on doors that serve as protection from scratches. It hints these βJunipersβ are heading to Tesla showrooms as display cars. They are finished in gray. Some cars on carriers have rims with black aerodynamic caps. And one of the spotted vehicles has silver-colored rims.
The refreshed Tesla Model Y adopts a thing LED running light strip in the front, and headlights integrated into the front bumper. From the back, the American SUV adopts a wide taillight unit. Otherwise, its exterior aligns with the old model.
Inside, the Model Y βJuniperβ keeps it simple with a large display and almost no physical buttons. However, the refreshed model switched to a steering-column-mounted gear shifter. The updated Model Y also adopts elongated rear seats and widened headrests. The βJuniperβ trunk capacity reaches 2,130 liters with the second-row seats folded, a 100-liter increase compared to the old model.
Tesla Model Y βJuniperβ Chinese specs
The entry-level Tesla Model Y βJuniperβ has a single 3D6 electric motor in the rear axle for 220 kW (295 hp). It is paired with the CATLβs LFP battery pack for 62.5 kWh. The CLTC range of this variant is 593 km, up 39 km, compared to the older model.
The AWD variant of the refreshed Model Y adopts 3D3 and 3D7 e-motors for 137 kW (184 hp) and 194 kW (260 hp), respectively. The combined power output of the system is 331 kW (444 hp). The car has a CATLβs ternary NMC battery for 719 km.
The exact dimensions of the βJuniperβ are 4797/1920/1624 mm with a wheelbase of 2890 mm. It is 47 mm longer and 1 mm narrower than its predecessor. Thanks to a sleek front end, its drag coefficient was reduced from 0.23 to 0.22 Cd.
