The Maextro S800 luxury sedan was officially released in China as the domestic rival for the Mercedes-Benz Maybach S-Class. The S800 has all-electric or range-extended powertrain options, 32 ADAS sensors, a body length of 5480 mm, and up to 635 kW (852 hp). It will start sales in China in May with a price range of 1 – 1.5 million yuan (136K – 205K USD) with 6C charging.
Maextro is a joint brand between Huawei and ex-Nio contract manufacturer JAC. In this JV, JAC is responsible for chassis development and manufacturing, while Huawei acts as a major part and ‘brains’ supplier. The Chinese IT giant is also responsible for Mextro vehicle sales in Huawei’s HIMA (Harmony Intelligence Alliance) stores across China. The S800 full-size NEV sedan is the Maextro’s first model.
Maextro S800 technologies
The official release ceremony on February 20 was dedicated to Maextro S800 technologies. It is the first car to integrate Huawei’s digital platform called “Tuling Longxing.” It supports autonomous learning to achieve domain control improvements. Moreover, the chassis of the car supports a wide variety of powertrain variants: dual motors, three motors, and four motors. As a result, the power output lies in a range of 480 – 1300 hp. The Maextro S800’s chassis is suitable for sedans, SUVs, and minivans with a gross weight of 3-3.8 tons.

As Huawei’s flagship in the automotive industry, the Maextro M800 has loads of the IT giant’s tech on board. It has such systems as the Huawei ADS road perception system, Huawei DATS (Dynamic Adaptive Torque System), and Huawei Xmotion body control system. Maextro officials are very proud of the Huawei ADS road perception system as it automatically scans the road conditions ahead, adjusting torque distribution & front and rear steering.

The car’s active suspension can react to road bumps and poor road conditions in advance. Moreover, the Maextro S800 supports the four-wheel steering technology. As a result, this 5.48-meter car has a turning radius of 5.05 meters in daily driving scenarios. Moreover, in a special mode, the car’s turning radius can be decreased to 3.8 meters. Another car’s feature is a crab walk mode. It allows the car to drive sideways up to 16 degrees. Previously, Maextro shared a video of the S800 sedan crab walking between Mercedes-Benz Maybachs.
The perception system of the car comprises 32 sensors, including four 192-line LiDARs. These sensors help to increase the detection distance in rain, fog, and dust by 60%. The perception delay was reduced by 40%. The car’s ADAS can autonomously detect a collision, and adjust the car’s body posture, the seat posture, tighten the seatbelt, raise the window, and unlock the central control lock. After the collision, Maextro S800 switches the redundant power supply and reports rescue information.

Headlights of the Maextro S800 follow the driving trajectory with the real-time perception function. The car’s high beams can interact with the driver and pedestrians, enhancing safety. Another highlight of the Maextro S800 is the double-layer air circulation system with bacteria, viruses, and harmful gases purification.
The EREV variant of the Maextro S800 supports the 800V high-voltage system, suitable for 6C charging. It means the battery can be charged with DC power six times the capacity. The Maextro S800 EREV has a 65 kWh battery, which means it can be charged with 390 kW. It takes 10.5 minutes to charge the battery from 10% to 80%.
More about the Maextro S800
The Maextro S800 adopts two-color body paint, 20-inch wheels with self-aligning wheel caps, and a LiDAR sensor on the roof. It is a large sedan with dimensions of 5480/2000/1536 mm (length, width, height), and a wheelbase of 3370 mm.

The Maextro S800 adopts BEV (battery electric vehicle) and EREV (extended-range electric vehicle) powertrain variants. The BEV variant is available with three electric motors (each for 160 kW) only with a combined power of 635 kW (852 hp). The EREV variant of this car goes with dual-motor 4WD for 390 kW (523 hp) and a 1.5-liter range extender as standard. There is also a tri-motor version available with a peak power output of 635 kW.
The Maextro S800 will enter the Chinese in May this year with a price range of 1 – 1.5 million yuan (136K – 205K USD). It will try to conquer the luxury car segment.
