Xiaomi SU7 Ultra accident

On March 9, a video of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra crash was posted on Chinese social media Weibo. This is the first track accident of the SU7 Ultra as the model started early deliveries on March 2.

In the video, the SU7 Ultra exits the corner and speeds up on the straight. However, the driver started braking too late. So, the vehicle collided with a wall made of tires. The car’s speed was over 120 km/h. As a result, the SU7 Ultra’s bonnet, front bumper, fenders, and headlights were damaged. Front airbags of the car deployed, ensuring the driver’s safety.

Previously, the Xiaomi SU7 (not Ultra) electric sedan also made headlines for track accidents several times in China. The regular SU7 has a weak spot, which is the brakes. There were some accidents, when the SU7’s brakes burned out on track, resulting in crashes. Xiaomi officials answered that the regular variant of the Xiaomi SU7 is made for public roads. So, this car can’t be used for track rides.

The SU7 Ultra is a different story. The company’s representatives officially confirmed that this vehicle is suitable for track rides. However, Xiaomi Auto founder and CEO Lei Jun said that drivers need to pay attention to safety. It is strongly recommended to participate in formal training before the track. Xiaomi officials advise every SU7 Ultra owner to participate in Xiaomi Auto Elite Driving Training to understand the vehicle better.

According to previous information, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra leaves the factory with a software speed and power output limit. Its top speed is limited to 140 km/h and the peak power output reaches 900 hp (not 1,526 hp). This limitation expires after the car’s owner racked 300 km. This way, Xiaomi wants to prevent collisions.
