The pure electric midsize sedan BYD Qin L EV, originally scheduled for launch today (March 12), has been postponed until March 23, according to recent updates. It is the first EV with an 800V high-voltage system in a price range between 100,000 – 150,000 yuan (13,900 – 19,400 USD).

Media outlets had previously reported that BYD was set to launch its new pure electric midsize sedan “Qin L EV” today, featuring 800V+5C ultra-fast charging capabilities. Industry sources claimed it would be “the only product equipped with an 800V ultra-fast charging solution in the mainstream price range of 100,000 to 150,000 yuan (13,900-20,800 USD).”

The BYD Qin L EV’s interior largely matches its DM-i counterpart with a few key differences: redesigned thin air vents, a new four-spoke steering wheel, silver door trim, and a steering column-mounted gear shifter.

From the side profile, the Qin L EV features semi-concealed door handles and 18-inch wheels. The rear section showcases a through-type taillight design. The vehicle measures 4720mm x 1880mm x 1495mm with a wheelbase of 2820mm.

In terms of intelligent driving capabilities, the BYD Qin L EV comes standard with the Eye of God’s Eye C (DiPilot 100) driving assistance system. With this hardware support, the model can achieve various advanced intelligent driving functions such as Highway Navigation Assist (HNOA) and intelligent parking.

We reported the interior design of BYD Qin L EV last month.
Regarding powertrain, the BYD Qin L EV offers two electric motor specifications with maximum power outputs of 110kW and 160kW respectively, both employing a rear-mounted, rear-wheel-drive layout. The vehicle is equipped with lithium iron phosphate battery packs of 46.08kWh and 56.64kWh capacity, providing ranges of 470 kilometers and 545 kilometers respectively.

BYD has not yet disclosed the specific pricing for the Qin L EV. For comparison, the BYD Qin L DM-i was launched on May 28 last year, featuring BYD’s fifth-generation DM technology with CLTC pure electric ranges of 80km and 120km. The Qin L DM-i offered five variants priced between 99,800 and 139,800 yuan (13,900 – 19,400 USD), emphasizing value for money. The Qin L DM-i measures 4830mm x 1900mm x 1495mm with a wheelbase of 2790mm.
Despite their similar names, the BYD Qin L EV differs significantly from the previously launched Qin L DM-i. The pure electric variant is built on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo and comes standard with the God’s Eye C (DiPilot 100) driving assistance system.
