BYD announced today that they will be hosting a technological showcase in China on 17 March, which will see the debut of the 1000V charging system on the Han L and Tang L models. The upcoming 1000V high voltage charging exceeds 5C rates and is designed to achieve charging speeds that are comparable to refueling petrol-powered vehicles.

According to BYD, the new charging platform incorporates 12 core components, including a 23,000-rpm electric motor and silicon carbide power electronics. When charged with a single-gun DC charger, the new system can deliver up to 800 kW, while the dual-gun DC charger increases the charging rate to 1000 kW.

Vehicles fitted with a 100 kWh battery pack with 5C charging support can theoretically be fully charged in 10 minutes – achieving charging speeds that can match the refueling of a petrol-powered vehicle.

Apart from the 1000V charging system, BYD is also expanding its 1000V/1000kW DC charging stations. A 1000V, 6C-capable supercharging station has been spotted in China, and they are prioritizing the installation of gigawatt-level supercharging stations at their 4S dealerships.
BYD set to expand high voltage charging to more models
Per our earlier report, BYD’s flagship Han L and Tang L models are expected to feature the new 1000V charging system, including the dual-gun DC charging system. In China, prices of the Han L and Tang L are expected to start from 300,000 yuan (41,450 USD).

BYD also plans to introduce an entry-level version of the Qin L EV with the 800V charging platform, aimed at the 150,000 yuan to 200,000 yuan (20,720 USD to 27,630 USD) segment.
More details of the Han L and Tang L

Beyond its supercharging capabilities, the BYD Han L and Tang L are called the Chinese culture carriers. Both models are flagship models of the Dynasty series.
Being flagship models, the Han L and Tang L also offer top-of-the-line performance figures, as the RWD models offer 500 kW (670 hp) and up to 810 kW (1,086 hp) for 4WD models. Models fitted with the dual-motor 4WD powertrain is able to sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.

The Han L and Tang L flagship position is also reflected in their dimensions. The former comes in at 5,050mm x 1,960mm x 1,505mm, with a wheelbase of 2,970mm. For context, that’s longer than a Mercedes-Benz E-Class W214 (4,949mm), only marginally less than an S-Class W223 (from 5,179mm).

The Tang L, on the other hand, measures 5,040/1,996/1,760 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,950mm. Compared to the previous generation Tang, the Tang L is 170 mm longer, 46 mm wider, and 35 mm taller. These dimensions put the Tang L as a larger model than the Porsche Cayenne (4930/1983/1676mm).
