significant upgrades over its predecessor

The 2025 Xpeng G6 (see specs) was launched in China on March 13. It features 81 design, technology, and performance updates. This includes 5C ultra-fast charging, an upgrade from 3C, and comes standard with the Turing AI intelligent driving system. The starting price is 11.56 per cent lower than the previous model.

The model received over 5,000 firm orders in the first seven minutes after its launch. Let’s examine what makes this electric SUV stand out in a competitive market.

Exterior

The 2025 Xpeng G6 introduces a 1942 mm full-width light strip that integrates the turn signals. This design enhances visibility and adds a distinctive visual signature to the vehicle. The Dark Night Black trim features blackened sports rims, callipers, and a dark space grey interior, further emphasizing its sporty and premium appeal.

The car’s dimensions remain unchanged at 4758 mm (length) x 1920 mm (width) x 1650 mm (height), with a 2890 mm wheelbase, ensuring ample space for passengers and cargo.

Interior

Stepping inside the 2025 G6, one immediately senses an upgraded cabin blends luxury and cutting-edge technology. It features a 10.25-inch LCD instrument panel and a 15.6-inch floating central control screen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon SA8295P chip and integrated with Xpeng’s self-developed X-GPT large language model.

The interior also boasts a 9-inch streaming rearview mirror, soft-touch materials in the wireless fast-charging area, and “cloud-sense” seats that offer heating, ventilation, and massage functions for the front seats. The 2025 G6 claims to have the most significant interior space and armrest box volume in its class, with an 8.9 L capacity to hold five 600 ml water bottles. The trunk offers 647 L of standard storage, expandable to 1,752 L.

Behind the Wheel

The 2025 Xpeng G6 delivers a refined and comfortable driving experience thanks to significant upgrades to its chassis and suspension. The suspension is now softer, providing a more comfortable ride. The suspension’s rebound travel has been lengthened, allowing it to absorb road imperfections more effectively while maintaining a balanced and composed feel.

The steering has also been improved, with a more refined and responsive feel. The new capacitive steering wheel provides better feedback and control, making handling the car in various driving conditions easier. While the steering is tuned more for comfort than sportiness, it strikes a good balance between ease of use and precision.

Noise insulation has been significantly enhanced with double-layer acoustic glass and improved soundproofing materials throughout the cabin. This results in a noticeably quieter interior, whether driving in the city or on the highway. Reducing road and wind noise offers a more serene and enjoyable driving experience.

The G6 2025 is powered by a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 218 kW (292 hp) and 450 Nm of torque. This motor is paired with an 800V high-voltage platform. This setup delivers a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 6.3 seconds, providing ample power for daily driving and highway merging. The car feels quick and responsive, with smooth power delivery, making driving easy in urban environments. With a consumption rate of 12.5 kWh per 100 km, its 5C battery adds 450 km of range in 10 minutes or charges from 10% to 80% in 12 minutes, even at -30°C.

The Turing AI intelligent driving system is a standout feature. The system relies on front and rear 8-megapixel cameras, millimeter-wave radar, and ultrasonic radar powered by dual NVIDIA Orin chips with a total computing power of 508 TOPS. The system demonstrated impressive accuracy and stability in our test drive, even in complex urban scenarios like construction zones and unmarked roads. While the current version adopts a conservative driving strategy, its rapid learning capabilities promise further improvements in the future.

Verdict

The 2025 Xpeng G6 has definitely improved with its 81 updates, including a 1942 mm light strip, 5C ultra-fast charging, and the Turing AI intelligent driving system. It offers a spacious interior, premium materials, and advanced technology and is 11.56 per cent cheaper than its predecessor, making it a competitive alternative to the BYD Sealion 7 (see specs) and the Onvo L60 (see specs). The 2025 Xpeng G6 is a practical and well-rounded option in the electric SUV market.
