The increasing sophistication of modern vehicles has led many drivers to embrace the convenience of using smartphone applications to unlock and operate their cars, often leaving traditional keys behind. Multiple Great Wall Motors apps are malfunctioning today, preventing Bluetooth keys from opening car doors.

This morning, numerous Great Wall Motor (GWM) owners reported widespread issues with the company’s mobile application, with many users encountering a “503 Service Unavailable” error. This outage left those who had opted to go keyless unable to access their vehicles, effectively being “stranded” outside their cars.

Following the app malfunction, many comments appeared on Great Wall Motor’s official social media channels. User feedback suggests the problem was not limited to the main GWM app but also affected applications for its sub-brands, Wey and Tank. Reports indicate that the disruption impacted drivers across various regions in China.

Great Wall Motor has since issued an official statement addressing the situation. The announcement reads:
”Due to a server anomaly, some users of the five brand apps and the Great Wall Motor app may be unable to log in or use them normally. Our technical team is working diligently to repair the server issue, and functionality is being gradually restored. We recommend that you carry your mechanical key when traveling to avoid any inconvenience caused by the inability to use the app usually.”

Great Wall Motor is a Chinese automobile manufacturer established in 1984. The company’s portfolio includes five major vehicle brands: Haval, Wey, Ora, Tank, and Great Wall Pickup.
At 16:00 Beijing time on March 21, Great Wall Motors released a statement saying that after the issue, its technical team immediately worked with the cloud service provider on a full restoration. Following intensive efforts, all apps have returned to normal operation. “If you previously experienced login issues, you can restart the app or try logging in again after changing your network environment.”
