New Chery QQ Duomi revealed in China as 5-door hatchback

A brand-new, five-door Chery QQ has been revealed through filings with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). According to the MIIT filing, the new model will be called Duomi and is expected to join other small Chery EVs, such as the QQ Ice Cream and Little Ant (eQ1).

A Rebadged Kaiyi Shiyue

If the Chery QQ Duomi looks familiar, that’s because it is a rebadged version of the Kaiyi Shiyue, which is sold outside of China as the Kaiyi e-Qute 02.

Kaiyi Shiyue Mate

Kaiyi originally started as Cowin, a sub-brand under Chery. The Shiyue debuted in China in October 2023 as a three-door hatchback. Recently, Kaiyi filed an MIIT application for its own five-door version of the Shiyue, which will be called the Shiyue Mate. Barring the obvious difference in badging, the Shiyue Mate and QQ Duomi appear identical.

Exterior Design & Features

The new Chery QQ Duomi shares the same overall design as the Shiyue but with two additional rear doors. It is also the first five-door hatchback under Chery’s EV-only sub-brand, QQ. Other models in the lineup, such as the Ice Cream, Little Ant, and Unbounded Pro (Wujie Pro), are all three-door hatchbacks.

At the front, the Chery QQ Duomi features sharp LED headlights above the air intake, giving it a slightly aggressive look. Although the lower air intake appears large initially, the opening is a small gap beneath the front license plate.

From the side, the QQ Duomi sports contrasting A-, B-, and C-pillars, creating a floating roof effect. The MIIT filings indicate that the model comes with 165/65R15 tires and two-tone black and silver wheel covers can be had as an option.

At the rear, the Chery QQ Duomi features a full-width taillight design, with the QQ emblem prominently displayed. The 倚米 (Duomi) badge is positioned on the right side of the tailgate.

Dimensions & Powertrain

Thanks to its five-door hatchback body style, the Chery QQ Duomi is currently the largest hatchback in the QQ lineup. It measures 3720/1700/1599mm, with a 2520 mm wheelbase. Interestingly, a second MIIT filing reveals another version of the QQ Duomi with a slightly increased height of 1608 mmβ€”9 mm taller than the standard model.

Powering the QQ Duomi is a 40 kW (53 hp) electric motor. There’s no information yet on whether a more powerful variant will be offered.

Chery-Kaiyi Collaboration & Pricing

The collaboration between Chery and Kaiyi appears to be motivated by slow sales of the Shiyue, which only sold 13,102 units from December 2023 to February 2025. By offering the same model across two different brands, Kaiyi hopes to boost overall sales.

As for pricing, the three-door Kaiyi Shiyue currently retails between 65,800 yuan and 75,800 yuan (USD 9,100–10,470). The QQ Duomi and Shiyue Mate have two additional doors, so their prices are expected to be slightly higher.

The QQ nameplate holds historical significance for Chery, as it references the original Chery QQ city car from 2003 β€” a model heavily inspired by the Daewoo/Chevrolet Matiz. Despite this, the QQ became an icon among Chinese city cars, with Chery producing over a million units in just a decade.

Reports from China suggest that Chery could officially unveil the all-new QQ Duomi at Auto Shanghai 2025, scheduled from April 23 to May 2, 2025. Stay tuned for more updates.
