Peugeot-Citroen’s Chinese joint-venture to launch compact Hedmos 06 SUV with 520 km range

Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroen launched a new EV brand in China – Hedmos. Its first model, the Hedmos 06 SUV, will begin deliveries in May.

Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroen (DPC) is a long-standing Chinese joint venture between Stellantis Group and Dongfeng. Based in Wuhan, it was formed 33 years ago in 1992.

The trademark Hedmos (示界, Shije in Chinese) was registered in 2019. The company says the brand logo evolved from the shape of a “compass needle pointing to the north.” It doesn’t resemble the Tesla logo at all. The Hedmos brand officially launched on March 3, as CarNewsChina reported, relatively under the radar.

On March 25, we learned the name of the new EV. It was previously reported that the name is Fukand 06, but the final name is just 06. The car will start pre-sales in Q2 2025, and deliveries will begin in May. No other official information was revealed.

However, as DPC applied for the sales license of Hedmos 06, the regulator had already revealed some information.

Hedmos 06 is a compact all-electric SUV about 4.7 meters long. Its exact dimensions are 4670/1900/1617 mm (length/width/height), and its wheelbase is 2,775 mm.

The EV will sit on Dongfeng’s DSMA architecture, powered by a single 160 kW motor mounted on the front axle. It will accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 6.9 seconds.

The battery pack will have a capacity of 62.3 kW, good for a 520 km range under CLTC conditions. The fast charging will allow it to charge from 30% to 80% in 28 minutes.

Inside the car, you find a minimalistic design and two screens with quite wide bezels. The smaller one is the driver’s instrument panel with a 10.2″ size, and the bigger one has 14.6″ size and works as a central control screen. The steering wheel has a flat bottom, and in the central tunnel are two cupholders and a wireless charging pad.

The price has yet to be revealed, but CarNewsChina expects it to start at 120,000 yuan (16,500 USD).

Editor’s comment

We see what the Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroen did here. Hedmos 06 is not an entirely new car but an updated Dongfeng Aeolus L7 launched in September 2024. This is nothing unusual, though; automakers in China often create new models or brands this way. For example, Lynk & Co Zero Concept became Zeekr 001, starting a new brand. Ironically, Lynk & Co was recently incorporated into Zeekr.

The question is—will Chinese consumers accept the new Hedmos brand? The executives at DPC hope it will get them into the EV race, but the chances are not high. There are over 100 brands in China, so launching another under the legacy badge, knowing the heritage power of joint ventures gets weaker every year as new EV startups grow sales, sounds like you would need to have an ace in your sleeve. We will see more when the car launches in May.
