Zeekr to launch extreme 1.2 MW supercharger in the second quarter in China, surpassing BYD

Zeekr revealed a fully liquid-cooled charging station with a peak power of 1.2 MW. The new supercharger will be officially unveiled on April 23 at the Shanghai Auto Show and launch in Q2, Zeekr announced.

Zeekr Group’s Vice President, Zhao Yuhui, revealed a 1.2 MW supercharger at the China Electric Vehicle 100 Forum yesterday. The supercharging station will have 10 plugs, each capable of delivering 1.2 MW of power.

Zeekr focus a lot on its charging infrastructure. In the past three years, the company updated its charging stations from 360 kW to 600 kW and then to 800 kW. Zeekr currently operate 826 charging stations with 4,007 chargers in China.

We will lead the charging industry into the ultra-fast 1 MW charging era,” Zhao said. The company plans to have 10,000 chargers by 2026 in China.

Zeekr is not alone in pushing into the fast charging over 1 MW. Earlier this month, BYD unveiled its 1,000 kW fast charger capable of adding 2 km per second or 400 km in 5 minutes. Moreover, Didi revealed its 1 MW fast charger, and Huawei announced it will launch a 1 MW charger on April 22.

BYD seems ahead now as the company announced they will install 4000 units of 1 MW fast chargers, with the first 500 to be deployed in April.

That will make BYD Megawatt Flash Charger, its official name, the most powerful mass-produced passenger car charger. It is double the Tesla V4 Cabinet power and far from other competitors:

  • Tesla V4: 500 kW.
  • Li Auto 5C: 520 kW.
  • NIO Power: 640 kW.
  • Xpeng S5: 800 kW
