On April 2, the Mazda 6e, the export variant of the Mazda EZ-6 to overseas markets including Europe and Southeast Asia, officially rolled off the assembly line at the Changan-Mazda Nanjing Plant in China. The official claimed that the letter βeβ was added to the name to make it easier to identify as an electric vehicle.

For reference, the current Mazda EZ-6 launched on the Chinese market in October 2024 costs 139,800 β 179,800 yuan (19,200 β 24,700 USD), available in seven trims in EV and EREV variants. Positioned as a mid-size sedan, the Mazda EZ-6 measures 4921/1890/1485 mm and has a 2895 mm wheelbase.
Built based on the Changan EPA hybrid platform, the EV variant is powered by a rear electric motor that outputs a maximum power of 190 kW (255 hp) and a peak torque of 320 Nm, matched with either 56.1 kWh or 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery packs. The CLTC cruising range is 480 km and 600 km, respectively. The official fast charging time to recharge the battery from 30% to 80% power is 15 minutes.
The EREV variant is equipped with a rear 160 kW (215 hp)/320 Nm electric motor and a 1.5L engine, paired with 18.9 kWh or 28.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery packs, providing a corresponding CLTC pure electric cruising range of 130 km and 200 km, respectively. The comprehensive range is up to 1,301 km. It takes 20 minutes to recharge the battery from 30% to 80% under fast charging.

The Mazda 6e is designed based on Mazdaβs Kodo Soul of Motion concept with design details including the frameless doors, a front grille that can lit up, hidden door handles, and a rear wing. Same as the Mazda EZ-6, the Mazda 6e comes standard with nine airbags with a total volume of 350 L and a protection area of up to 25,000 cm2.
Furthermore, two power versions will be launched in the European market:
- Long Range: 180 kW (241 hp)/320 Nm rear electric motor, 80 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, and a WLTP range of 552 km
- Standard: 190 kW (255 hp)/320 Nm rear electric motor, 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, and a WLTP range of 479 km
Looking to the future, the Mazda-Changan joint venture will also launch a new SUV model in 2025, according to Mazda Motor Corporation President, Katsuhiro Moro.
