BYD has officially launched the Tang L, the new flagship SUV in its Dynasty series, featuring both pure electric and hybrid powertrain options across six variants priced between 229,800 and 289,800 yuan (31,700-40,000 USD).

Built on BYD’s Super e-Platform, the Tang L represents the brand’s latest design language with a largely enclosed front fascia emphasizing its new energy identity. The vehicle measures 5040/1996/1760mm in l/w/h, with a 2,950mm wheelbase, positioning it in the mid-to-large SUV segment with both six and seven-seat configurations available.

The interior adopts a wrap-around cockpit design with distinctive two-tone color schemes and matte gray metallic decorative panels. The dashboard features a fully digital instrument cluster and a large 15.6-inch central control screen, complemented by an optional AR-HUD (head-up display). Hidden air vents integrate seamlessly with the vehicle’s interior design, while an electronic shifter creates a more streamlined center console layout.

One of the Tang L’s most distinctive features is an integrated drone system available on select models. The roof houses a compartment containing a drone and charging equipment that can be deployed with one-button operation, offering a flight range of up to 2 kilometers.

For driver assistance, the Tang L comes standard with BYD’s DiPilot 300 system (“God’s Eye” B), featuring roof-mounted LiDAR on higher trim levels. The vehicle also incorporates the DiLink 150 intelligent cockpit system.

The pure electric version offers both single and dual-motor configurations. The single-motor rear-wheel drive variant features what BYD claims is the world’s highest-power motor, capable of 30,511 rpm and delivering 580kW (788hp). The dual-motor all-wheel drive version adds a 230kW front motor, bringing the system’s maximum power to 810kW (1,100hp) and enabling 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 3.9 seconds.

All EV variants come equipped with a 100.53kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, offering CLTC range figures of 670km for the rear-wheel drive model, 600km for the all-wheel drive version, and 560km for the drone-equipped model. The vehicles are equipped with a 1000V high-voltage platform and megawatt flash charging technology, allowing for 400 kilometers of travel with just a 5-minute charge, with support dual-gun super charging with power up to 351kW when using 180kW public charging stations.

The hybrid Tang L debuts BYD’s latest DM-P technology, combining a high-efficiency engine with dual electric motors. This powertrain enables 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.3 seconds while achieving fuel consumption of just 5.6 liters per 100km under NEDC standards in charge-depleting mode. The hybrid variants feature a 35.62kWh battery providing electric-only ranges between 175km and 215km depending on the configuration.

Exterior styling incorporates BYD’s Dragon Face design language with modified proportions for a more dynamic appearance. The D-pillar features special treatment to improve natural lighting and visibility for third-row passengers. At the rear, the vehicle employs minimalist styling with distinctive lighting elements inspired by Chinese cultural elements, including phoenix wings and bamboo weaving patterns.
