SAIC Roewe D6 sets new Guinness power consumption record for EV in China

Recently, SAIC’s Roewe D6 pure electric sedan set the Guinness World Record for “the lowest energy consumption for a mass-produced pure electric car driving through the Qinghai-Tibet Highway” with a power consumption of 9.125kWh/100km. The Roewe D6 is built based on the second-generation Roewe Nebula architecture and is expected to be officially launched later this month at the Shanghai Auto Show.

It is worth mentioning that in October 2024, the Roewe D7 DMH sedan set a Guinness World Record for the longest distance covered by a PHEV by driving 2,208 km under full fuel and full charge with an average fuel consumption of 2.49L/100km.

Starting from Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province in China, the Qinghai-Tibet Highway has a total length of 1,973 km with an average elevation of above 4,000 meters, making it the highest-altitude highway in the world, according to the China Communication Construction Company in 2021.

The challenge lasted five days where the Roewe D6 set off from Lhasa, drove 1,959.9 km along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway, crossed the Tanggula Pass at an altitude of 5,231 meters, and Kunlun Mountain, Fenghuoshan Tunnel, and other passes above 4,700 meters, and finally arrived in Xining. The weather conditions span plateau permafrost, blizzard, and extreme cold with a minimum temperature of -12°C, the automaker claimed.

The Roewe D6 has a drag coefficient of 0.27Cd and a body size of 4792/1828/1496 mm with a 2750 mm wheelbase. Two CLTC range versions will be offered:
