There is a new automotive manufacturer. They are call Slate Auto and they will debut an all-new mini-truck to the world on April 24, 2025. What is it and would you consider buying one? Letβs dig in and take a look at all the details we have so far.
This is a start-up that is based in Troy, Michigan. It has the backing of many wealthy individuals and companies. One of the main investors is Jeff Bezos of Amazon. They are rumored to have the funding (at least $100 Million) and the expertise to bring a small electric pickup to market. Slate Auto is listed to have 341 employees, according to the companyβs LinkedIn page. We recognize several names on the employee list, including engineers from Ram Trucks / Stellantis.
We do not have many other specs or details, but we have several images. First is a spy image you can see at the top of this article. This was published by discostranger09 on Reddit. It shows a small two-door mini truck with a short bed (perhaps five or six feet in length). Perhaps, the most exciting rumor is that the starting price of this new truck will be $25,000.
Next we have an image from NewsWeek and Slate Auto. Itβs a teaser image in camouflage. The shape validates the spy image from above. NewsWeek says that this is indeed an all-new electric vehicle by Slate Auto.
We have some questions. This appears to be a new clean-sheet design. If it is, the Slate Auto pickup has a traditional βthree boxβ shape. There is a hood, a cab, and a bed behind it. Since this is an electric pickup, it does not need to have a hood area for an engine. Perhaps there is a front truck or frunk in that space? Should it have been a different shape? Perhaps more of a cab forward design, such the new TELO mini truck?
Here are more of our thoughts about the Slate Auto mini truck. Would you consider buying one if it comes to production at the end of 2026 or early 2027? If the starting price is close to $25,000?
