Volkswagen launches ID.UNYX 06 SUV starting from 20,560 USD

Volkswagen officially launched the updated ID.UNYX 06 electric vehicle in China, marking a significant refresh for the model produced by its Anhui joint venture. Positioned as a facelift of the original ID.UNYX, the new 06 version, brings comprehensive upgrades focused on intelligence, entertainment, and personalisation features.

The ID.UNYX 06 has four trim levels: Pure, Pro, Ultra, and Max. Official Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) range from 189,900 to 249,900 yuan (26350 to 34690 USD). However, in a move likely aimed at boosting market traction, Volkswagen Anhui is offering a substantial limited-time promotional β€œspecial price” across the range:

  • Pure: 149,900 yuan (20,560 USD)
  • Pro: 169,900 yuan (23,330 USD)
  • Ultra: 189,900 yuan (26,100 USD)
  • Max: 209,900 yuan (28,970 USD)

Further sweetening the deal, Volkswagen provides attractive ownership incentives for a limited period. These include financing options like 5 years with 0% interest or 7 years with zero down payment, substantial trade-in subsidies, a β€œBrand Light Enjoyment Package” (specifics not detailed), an extended warranty, 5 years of complimentary connected vehicle services, and 50,000 bonus points. Additional special benefits are available for purchases made during the Shanghai Auto Show / May Day holiday period, with the β€œGolden Badge VW” venture offering extra vehicle discounts of 4,000 yuan (550 USD) for the Pure trim and 6,000 yuan (825 USD) for the Pro, Ultra, and Max trims.

Visually, the ID.UNYX 06’s distinctive design sets it apart from traditional Volkswagen models. It features the closed-off front grille typical of EVS, paired with an aggressively styled lower bumper incorporating air ducts to optimise aerodynamics. A new β€œTwilight Blue” exterior colour option has been added. The rear showcases an integrated design combining the spoiler, taillights, and high-mounted brake light, featuring striking three-dimensional layered taillights.

Inside, the cabin aims for a more premium feel, with gold accents adorning the dashboard, instrument panel trim lines, steering wheel, and air vents. These accents particularly complement the available white interior scheme for a fashionable look.

On the technology front, the ID.UNYX 06 debuts Volkswagen’s latest ID.S 5.4 infotainment system. This brings new functionalities such as in-car gaming, β€œmetaverse” social features, an integrated fragrance system, and a mode editor. Significant optimisations have been made to 31 human-machine interface (HMI) functions, including the 3d Avatar, general HMI layout, a Large Language Model (LLM) integration, and the One App remote control system. The upgraded AI intelligent assistant leverages the enhanced LLM to offer new capabilities like image generation and improved vehicle/knowledge base recognition.

Active safety sees improvements with an upgraded Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) system featuring optimised detection algorithms for two-wheeled vehicles to reduce accident risks. A new Pre-crash system has also been added, using intelligent sensors for predictive collision detection and preparation.

Regarding powertrain, the entry-level ID.UNYX 06 Pure is equipped with a 53.6 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, providing a CLTC-rated range of 426 km. Volkswagen highlights the vehicle’s balanced 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution, sport-oriented mixed tire widths (235mm front / 255mm rear), a five-link independent rear suspension, available DCC adaptive chassis control, and five distinct driving modes.

The ID.UNYX is the first and currently only model from the Volkswagen Anhui venture, a partnership with local automaker JAC Motors. Often referred to as β€œGolden Badge VW” due to its distinct gold logo, the original ID.UNYX faced challenges, reporting poor sales figures, which reportedly contributed to financial losses for JAC Motors in 2024. The aggressive relaunch pricing for the ID.UNYX 06 suggests a determined effort by the joint venture to improve the model’s market performance.
