A low-cost electric truck was unveiled, and part of the vehicle’s appeal is its affordable price.
The Slate Truck is a simple, electric vehicle made in the United States, with an expected price of just under $20,000, according to its website. Slate Auto is a firm backed in part by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, according to a report by NBC News.
A website and social media pages for the all-electric vehicle were rolled out on Thursday, April 24.
“The people spoke. We built. Meet the radically simple, radically affordable Slate,” was posted on its official X account.
The vehicles aren’t expected to be delivered to customers until late 2026, but can be reserved for a refundable $50 fee, NBC News reported.
Here’s what to know about the Slate Truck.
The Slate Truck is an electric pickup truck that can be personalized.
“A Slate is a two-door electric pickup truck that’s thoughtfully designed and engineered to be customized again and again to transform into whatever you need it to be, even an SUV. With an expected price of under $20,000 after federal incentives, it’s radically affordable,” its website states.
The Slate Truck is built in the USA and while the model comes in silver, can be changed to your preferred color, or you have the option to change it into a 5-seat SUV.
The Slate has a projected range of 150 miles, while a longer-range battery pack extends the range to a projected 240 miles, according to its website.
Reservations can only be made in the United States here. There is a $50 reservation fee, which is fully refundable.
The expected price of the blank Slate is under $20,000 after federal incentives are applied. The Slate website notes that potential buyers should review the IRS website to determine eligibility for incentives. Price excludes taxes and fees and are subject to change.
Leasing isn’t currently available.
