Xiaomi President says, “YU7 SUV details coming soon; I’m buying one”

During a recent live stream, Xiaomi President Lu Weibing confirmed that the company will unveil further details about its upcoming electric SUV, the Xiaomi YU7, at a product launch event in late May. The SUV is expected to hit the market between June and July, offering single-motor rear-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations.

The YU7 has already completed registration with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), with official images showcasing its dynamic styling. The front end features a closed grille and headlight design reminiscent of the Xiaomi SU7 sedan, complete with an upper hollowed-out section to channel airflow. At the rear, the SUV adopts symmetrical C-shaped LED taillights, departing from the SU7’s full-width light bar, while a roof-mounted spoiler enhances aerodynamics.

The YU7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width, and 1,608 mm in height, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. It offers a spacious five-seat cabin. Buyers can opt for 19-inch, 20-inch, or 21-inch wheels. The model is expected to inherit the SU7’s triple-layer silver-coated panoramic sunroof, which blocks 99.9% of UV rays and provides 97.6% heat insulation.

Recent spy shots reveal a minimalist yet tech-focused interior, including a floating central touchscreen and aΒ panoramic head-up display (PHUD)Β that projects critical driving information onto the windshield. Unlike the SU7, the YU7 omits the flip-up instrument cluster but retains key details like gear position and warning lights on the screen’s corner.

The three-spoke steering wheel includes a centring marker and a shift-by-wire gear selector, while an NFC-labeled sticker on the left side hints at unannounced functionalityβ€”the centre console houses dual wireless charging pads, cup holders, and a split-opening armrest. Additional luxuries include sporty bucket seats, a rear bench with a fold-down armrest, and optional rear entertainment screens.

The YU7 will offer multiple drivetrain choices:

  • Single-motor RWD:Β 235 kW (315 hp), paired with a 96.3 kWh battery for up toΒ 835 kmΒ (519 miles) range.
  • Dual-motor AWD (low power):Β 130 kW (front) + 235 kW (rear), with a 101.7 kWh battery deliveringΒ 670–760 kmΒ (416–472 miles).
  • Dual-motor AWD (high power):Β 220 kW (front) + 288 kW (rear), totallingΒ 508 kW (691 hp)Β and a top speed of 253 km/h (157 mph).

Xiaomi’s 800V fast-charging system enablesΒ a range of 200 km in 5 minutes, addressing range anxiety.

In China, the YU7 will compete with rivals like theΒ Tesla Model YΒ from 263,500 yuan (36,600 USD)Β andΒ the Nio EC6 from 358,000 yuan (49,700 USD). We predict aΒ 250,000–350,000Β yuan (34,700–48,600 USD) price range, leveraging its long-range capability and Xiaomi’s Hyper OS ecosystem integration.
