Zeekr 7X electric SUV launches priced from US$32,600 and will head overseas with various safety firsts

On September 20, Zeekr launched its first proper all-electric SUV, the 7X. There are three versions of the new car priced between 229,900 and 269,900 yuan (32,600 – 38,250 USD). Probably the most surprising feature of the 7X is its one-button window-breaking system to escape from the car if trapped in a situation such as underwater. The three versions are as follows:

Zeekr 7X RWD 75 kWh 229,900 yuan (32,600 USD)
Zeekr 7X RWD 100 kWh 249,900 yuan (35,450 USD)
Zeekr 7X AWD 100 kWh 269,900 yuan (38,250 USD)

The Zeekr 7X debuted at the Chengdu Auto Show at the end of last month, and pre-sales began soon after. Presales prices began at 239,900 yuan (34,000 USD), and a week later, it had amassed orders of 20,000. Now, 20 days later, the total stands at 58,429.

Designed very much with global markets in mind, the brand’s first mid-size electric SUV measures 4825, 1930, and 2925 mm (l/w/h). It has a wheelbase of 2925 mm and uses Geely’s sustainable experience architecture (SEA) 800V platform. Depending on the version, the 7X weighs between 2298 and 2475 kg. It’s available in seven colors: Polar Day White, Polar Night Black, Twilight Gray, Dawn Brown, Forest Green, Stream Blue, and Yunxia Orange.

A traditionally shaped SUV, it has smooth lines utilizing Zeekr’s Hidden Energy design language. It has through-style lights both front and rear. The front ones make up the Zeekr Stargate interactive LCD display, which can project messages and images.

Inside, buyers have a choice from purple and white, black and gray, and pure black color schemes for the interior. The seats gain Nappa full-grain leather. According to Zeekr, they are enhanced with fourteen functions, including heating, ventilation, and six spa-grade massage settings. Presumably, not all of these functions are standard.

Rear seat passengers also benefit from heating and ventilation. The fold-down armrest has an LED control for such functions. Not only do the rear seats have adjustable rake, but also have an extendable leg rest. Trunk space is 765 liters, and with the seats down, this is extendable to 1978 liters. There is also a 62 liter frunk.

The dashboard is dominated by a 16-inch floating infotainment screen, under which are some physical buttons. A 13.5-inch instrument panel is embedded within the dashboard and there is also a 36-inch augmented reality head-up display. Mounted on the back of the front seats are 13-inch 2.5K OLED screens for rear passenger entertainment. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip powers the cockpit.

The Zeekr 7X comes standard with the same Haohan 2.0 intelligent driving system as the Zeekr 007. It is a Lidar-based system and features forward AEB at speeds up to 120 km/h. Haohan supports map-less urban driving. Twin Nvidia Orin X chips with a combined computing power of 508 TOPS provide the computing power behind the system.

Zeekr emphasized the car’s safety features at the launch conference. To address the issue of urban flooding, Zeekr has introduced the hidden button function, which will break the car window if the occupants are trapped inside, such as during a flood. This Zeekr claims is an industry first. The company also claims to have developed the world’s first child smart safety seat with active airbags.

Single-motor versions use a 310 kW electric motor on the rear axle, and all-wheel drive versions add a 165 kW electric motor to the front axle. Dual-motor versions have a 0- 100 km/h acceleration time of 3.8 seconds.

The 75 kWh battery pack uses Zeekr’s own self-developed golden brick battery, a 5.5C charging-capable lithium iron phosphate battery that can charge from 10% to 80% SoC in 10.5 minutes. Acceleration time for the single-motor version car equipped with this battery is 5.8 seconds, while range is 605 km.

On the other hand the 100 kWh battery pack is a NMC chemistry unit which for the single motor version provides up to 780 km range using the CLTC measurement system. Acceleration time for the single motor version when equipped with this battery is slightly faster at 5.7 seconds. When combined with the dual motor setup range reduces to 705 km.

Zeekr claims the car has off-road credentials world’s first pure electric SUV to conquer Bilutu Peak – the highest fixed dune on Earth. Due to the air suspension ground clearance can reach up to 230 mm.

Deliveries in China will begin this month and Zeekr promises a launch in global markets within a year.
