The Changan Nevo E07 crossover has entered the Chinese market with a starting price of 199,900 yuan (28,100 USD). It is available for purchase in EREV and BEV variants. But its main feature is a transformation capability. It can transform from an SUV to a pickup truck with a single button push.
Changan Nevo is a young brand known in China as Qiyuan. It focuses on manufacturing new energy vehicles. Most of its model line is represented by PHEV or EV variants of ICE cars from the Changan brand (like Nevo Q05, Nevo A05, or Nevo A06). But some of Changan Nevoβs models stand out from the crowd. And the Nevo E07 is definitely one of them.
Briefly on Changan Nevo E07
Changan Nevo officials claim that the E07 is the first mass-produced transformer SUV. At first sight, it looks like an elongated SUV coupe with a low beltline. But it has an electrically powered retractable trunk cover. So, it can transform from an SUV to a pickup truck. Its load-bearing capacity is 300 kg, which isnβt much. Previously, Audi displayed a similar concept car called the Audi Activesphere. But Changan is the one who actually launched the volume production of such a model.
The Changan Nevo E07 is a mid-to-large crossover with a distinguishing design language. Its front end has rectangular headlights jointed by an interactive block. The front bumper of the Nevo E07 adopts two LiDAR sensors. It also has wide wheel arches and glossy plastic trim around the lower part of the body.
The dimensions of the Changan Nevo E07 are 5045/1996/1640 mm with a wheelbase of 3120 mm. Despite its impressive size, it has only two rows of seats inside as it has a low roofline and a loading bed. The Nevo E07 has a drag coefficient of 0.237 Cd. It is a decent number for a car of such size. It is slightly better than the drag coefficient of the Tesla Model X.
Inside, the Changan Nevo E07 offers a clean styling without a conventional instrument panel. It was replaced by the 28.86-inch head-up display. The gear shifter of the Nevo E07 sits behind a three-spoke steering wheel. Another feature of this car is a large 15.4-inch floating screen. The front passenger of the Nevo E07 has an optional display instead of a sun visor.
Changan Nevo E07 powertrain
The Changan Nevo E07 offers EREV and BEV powertrain variants. The extended-range version has a 1.5-liter ICE for 105 kW (141 hp). It acts as a generator without transferring any torque to the wheels. The entry-level Nevo E07 has a single e-motor in the rear axle for 231 kW (310 hp). The 4WD variant offers an additional electric motor in the front axle for 131 kW (176 hp). The battery capacity reaches 39.05 kWh, suitable for 185 β 200 km of CLTC range.
The entry-level all-electric Changan Nevo E07 has a single e-motor for 252 kW (338 hp) at the rear axle. And the 4WD variant has 440 kW (590 hp). It speeds up from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.96 seconds. The battery pack has a capacity of 70 and 90 kWh, good for 551 β 701 km of CLTC range. Other features of the Nevo E07 are air suspension and a continuous damping system.
