GAC’s Aion brand will show 2 new models at the Gaungzhou Auto Show

Gu Huinan, general manager of GAC Aion New Energy Automobile Co., Ltd., mentioned in an interview on November 6 that Aion would unveil two new models at the Guangzhou Auto Show, which will open on November 15. The two new models are the Aion UT and the Hyptec HL. In further news, Aion will join the list of former EV-only brands to offer a range extended with a new model on its way next year.

Aion UT is the name given to the small hatchback we exposed recently, which previously went by the internal AY2 codename. It is the second model designed as a global model following the second-generation Aion V launched earlier this year. It’s believed that the car will go on sale in Europe in 2025 as part of the Aion brand’s export drive.

The UT should be a relatively compact hatchback, and from pictures, we can see that it has short overhangs at both the front and back. At the front, the Aion UT has a largely enclosed face. Aiding streamlining are semi-concealed door handles. Due to the charging port being on the front right side, Chinese media expect the Aion UT to be a front-wheel drive car. There is a panoramic roof, and the car is expected to be slightly bigger than the BYD Dolphin, which will likely be one of its main competitors.

Less is known about the Hyptec HL, which until recently was known only by its codename AH8. It’s believed to be an SUV similar in size to the Li L8. Spy shots have shown the car carrying disruptive pain camouflaging, and the HL should be a six-seater using a 2+2+2 configuration.

Originally, the car was being jointly developed by GAC and Huawei, but GAC subsequently announced that Huawei’s involvement was being dropped to that of supplier. Investment in the project is reported as 1.233 billion yuan.

The HL has an enclosed face, and it is claimed to have an interactive intelligent light group under the main light cluster. Spy shots show that the interior will be largely the same as that of the Hyptec HT. There is a floating infotainment unit and a set-back instrument display, along with a steering wheel with both a flattened top and bottom. The HL should have the ADIGO 6.0 intelligent cockpit, which uses a large AI model and integrates with the cloud.

The HL is known to come with air suspension and is expected to use the same 800V platform as the HT, which supports 5C charging. Both single—and dual-motor versions should be available.

Currently no further information is known about the Aion brand’s forthcoming EREV, other than it is likely to debut in 2025. It is possible that the car will simply be an EREV version of one of the brand’s existing models.
