Voyah Courage is China’s 10 millionth new energy vehicle in 2024

On November 14, the ceremony to celebrate Chinaโ€™s annual production of NEVs exceeding 10 million units for the first time was held in Wuhan, also marking the first country to achieve this milestone. The 10 millionth NEV was Dongfengโ€™s Voyah Courage SUV.

2013 was the first year that Chinaโ€™s NEV production and sales were included in the statistical system, and the production that year was only 18,000 vehicles, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM). Then in 2018, Chinaโ€™s annual NEV production volume reached one million units, and subsequently rose to more than 6.5 million units in 2022, to exceeding 9 million vehicles in 2023, and then to exceeding 10 million vehicles for the first time in 2024. It took China 27 years to produce the first NEV to the 10 millionth one.

Since 2015, Chinaโ€™s NEV production and sales have ranked first in the world for nine consecutive years. By 2023, Chinese NEVs accounted for more than 60% of the global share, with annual production and sales exceeding 9 million vehicles, according to data from the CAAM. At the same time, from 2012 to 2023, Chinaโ€™s automobile retail sales increased from approximately 2.4 trillion yuan (331.9 billion USD) to 4.86 trillion yuan (672.2 billion USD), accounting for about 10% of the total retail sales of consumer goods.

The Voyah Courage is available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions. Among them, the maximum power of the rear electric motor of the two-wheel drive is 215 kW (288 hp) or 230 kW (308 hp), equipped with lithium iron phosphate battery or ternary lithium battery pack, and the cruising range options are 625 km, 650 km, and 901 km. The maximum power of the front/rear electric motor of the four-wheel drive is 160 kW (215 hp), the combined maximum power is 320 kW (429 hp) , and the cruising range is 570 km.
