Xiaomi SU7 Ultra hits 359.71 km/h, Hyper Autonomous Driving System announced

During the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show, Lei Jun, founder of Xiaomi, announced that the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra achieved a top speed of 359.71 km/h during a recent high-speed test at the CATARC Yan Cheng Automotive Proving Ground. Lei stated, “What limited the SU7 Ultra’s maximum speed was not the car itself but the test track.”

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra will challenge major tracks across China next year, including a return to the Nürburgring. The prototype car completed the Nürburgring lap in 6 minutes 46.874 seconds, setting a new record as the fastest four-door car around the track. It is 5070 mm long, 1970 mm wide, and 1465 mm high. It has a wheelbase of 3000 mm, weighs 2360 kg, and seats five passengers.

The test was conducted by David Pittard, the 2023 Nürburgring 24-Hour Endurance Race champion, who reached a maximum speed of 324 km/h on the track’s back straight. After completing the test, the vehicle was returned to China and displayed at today’s 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show event.

Although the Xiaomi SU7 has only been on the market for 230 days, it has already produced 100,000 units. Ten minutes after the SU7 Ultra was announced, Xiaomi received 3,680 pre-orders (refundable).

Lei Jun also introduced Xiaomi’s new Hyper-Autonomous Driving (HAD) system. The system will undergo internal trials starting November 16, and a broader public release is expected by December.

The HAD system aims to improve driving efficiency and safety by providing smoother driving behavior and reducing sudden acceleration and braking. It uses real-world driving data to enhance route predictions and adjust driving decisions based on real-time conditions.

Xiaomi highlighted that the system can navigate complex environments, such as narrow spaces, busy intersections, and roads with obstacles. Introducing a Vision-Language Model (VLM) is designed to help the system better handle complex scenarios, including uneven road surfaces, construction zones, and T-junctions.
