Deepal S05 is a sales hit with 21,730 orders but the challenge is to deliver them

A month after the Deepal S05 entered the market, the brand announced that the SUV, available in both all-electric and EREV versions, has received 21,730 orders. The big challenge now for the Changan-owned Deepal brand is delivering the cars.

Previously, it was reported that the S05 attracted more than 10,000 orders after ten days on the market. In October, total Deepal deliveries were 27,862. If the brand is able to convert the sales into actual deliveries, then November will achieve a new sales high.

Sales of the Deepal S05 began on October 20, and deliveries also began around the same time. Currently, six versions of the car are on sale, four of which are all-electric and the other two EREV. Prices range from 119,900 yuan (16,900 USD) to 149,900 yuan (21,100 USD). Strangely, the EREV versions are not the cheaper cars; instead, they are more expensive than the equivalent trim for the EV, with the most expensive car at 149,900 yuan (21,100 USD) being the 200 Ultra EREV.

The dimensions of the Deepal S05 (see specs) are 4620/1900/1600mm in length, width, and height, and the wheelbase is 2880mm. Buyers can choose from five colors. Huawei xPixel-enabled intelligent headlights can create a 120-inch screen projection effect.

There is also a Deepal 4K intelligent gimbal camera that has 64GB storage space, enough for about 21,000 photos or 12 hours of video. Other features include a 14-speaker sound system and a panoramic roof.

The interior is offered in three colors: orange, blue, and gray. With the S05, Deepal has moved to a single central 15.4-inch 2.5K control screen setup. This is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip, and the vehicle uses Deepal OS 3.0. The car gains a D-shaped steering wheel, and although there is no instrument display, there is an augmented reality head-up display.

The center console has two layers and comes with a 13-liter temperature-insulated storage container. There are an additional 35 storage spaces throughout the vehicle. Furthermore, the EV version has a 159-liter trunk. Trunk capacity is also higher with the EV at 651 liters, versus 464 liters for the EREV.

Power for the EV comes from a 175 kW electric motor with a peak torque of 320 Nm. It only comes with a 56.12 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack which is good for a CLTC range of 510 km.

The EREV, on the other hand, has a JL469Q1 1.5 naturally aspirated engine with a maximum power of 72 kW. This only acts as a generator, with power to the wheels being supplied by a 160 kW electric motor with 320 Nm of torque. The EREV has a 27.28 kWh battery pack, which provides a 200 km all-electric range, and the car has a 1234 km comprehensive range.
