New BYD Dolphin electric hatchback specs revealed in China

On December 9, the new BYD Dolphin all-electric hatchback was revealed by the Chinese MIIT. As a facelift model, the new car underwent minor appearance changes and added a 130 kW (174 hp) electric motor option. For reference, the 2025 BYD Dolphin on the market has a price range of 99,800 – 129,800 yuan (13,700 – 17,900 USD).

In November, the BYD Dolphin sold 21,712 units, bringing its 2024 cumulative sales to 176,560 units.

Compared with the 2025 model on sale, the lower front face on both sides has been adjusted. From the side, the body lines have not changed as well as the semi-hidden door handles.

Coming to the rear, the original β€œBuild Your Dream” logo inlaid on the taillight has been upgraded to the β€œBYD” logo. At the same time, the taillight interior design and the lower section of the rear have also been adjusted. The new car runs on either 195/60R16 or 205/50R17 tires.

The length, width, and height of the new BYD Dolphin are 4280/1770/1570 mm, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2700 mm; which is 155 mm longer that the 2025 model on sales. Three vehicle curb weights were declared, namely, 1435 kg, 1480 kg, and 1600 kg.

The optional configurations include the panoramic sunroof, front radar, front camera, rear radar, front side radar, rear side radar, side mirror camera, rear camera, black roof, rear privacy glass, high gloss film, and rim designs.

Furthermore, three permanent magnet synchronous motor options were declared for the powertrain:

  • Model TZ180XSF: 70 kW (94 hp)
  • Model TZ200XSW: 130 kW (174 hp)
  • Model TZ200XSQ: 150 kW (201 hp)

The entire series will continue to use BYD’s Blade LFP battery packs. The top speeds are 150 km/h and 160 km/h, depending on the trims.

For reference, the 2025 BYD Dolphin offers two power options, the low-power trim has a maximum power of 70 kW and a peak torque of 180 Nm while the high-power trim has a maximum power of 150 kW and a peak torque of 310 Nm. The low-power trim uses 44.928 kWh while the high-power trim uses 60.48 kWh BYD Blade battery pack, and the corresponding cruising range is 420 km and 520 km.
