Thanks to a government regulator, we now know more details about the Avatr 06, a car until days ago known by the code name E16. The fourth model from the Avatr brand, whose major investors are Changan and CATL, the new sedan will compete with the Tesla Model 3.
From the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) listing information, we know that the car will come in both fully electric and extended-range electric versions. For the all-electric car, there are both single-motor and dual-motor versions, while the EREV currently only has a listing for a single-motor version.
Although the car is likely to be the cheapest Avatr model to date, it is still relatively large. Dimensions are 4855, 1960, with a height listed as either 1450 or 1467 mm. The two heights are likely because of air suspension. Meanwhile, the wheelbase is 2940 mm.
The lightest version is the EREV, which has a curb weight of 2120 kg. The single-motor all-electric version is heavier at 2210 kg, while the dual-motor version is 2320 kg. All versions of the car are offered with a choice of 20 or 21-inch wheels.
Avatr’s new model is closely related to the Avatr 07 SUV, which launched earlier this year. As expected, the powertrain for the two cars is the same. The single motor has a 252 kW XTDM39 electric motor on the rear axle. The all-wheel drive version then adds the same 188 kW XYDM05 motor as used by the Avatr 07 to the front axle. Top speed for both all-electric versions is 200 km/h.
EREV versions use a JL469ZQ1 1.5 T engine as a generator, with a maximum power of 115 kW. Power to the rear wheels comes from an ATDM01 electric motor, with up to 231 kW available. It should be noted that the Avatr 07 has a dual-motor EREV version, but currently, the Avatr 06 does not. The top speed for the EREV is 190 km/h.
The EREV is slightly different from the all-electric version visually, with a lattice-looking air inlet below the enclosed front face.
All versions of the Avatr 06 will use CATL lithium iron phosphate batteries. Currently, there is no further information about the batteries. However, as the powertrain is already shared with the Avatr 07, there is a high likelihood that the battery pack sizes will be the same as well. This would see the EV version using a 4.5C 82.16 kWh battery pack and the EREV using a 39.05 kWh pack, utilizing CATL’s new Freevoy battery.
From the MIIT options list, we can see that there are versions using Lidar and with camera-based side-view mirrors. The Avatr 06 will likely use Huawei Qiankun ADS 3.0 for ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) along with the Harmony OS operating system. It should be noted that although Huawei is not a shareholder in Avatr, it provides much of the smart technology.
Equipment specifications are expected to be broadly in line with those seen on the Avatr 07. This likely means a 15.6-inch floating infotainment screen along with a wide 35.4-inch surround screen at the back of the dashboard. Cars equipped with side view cameras will also get two 6.7-inch displays for those cameras. Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4.0 will likely power the system.
Sales should commence in the first half of 2025. Prices will be lower than those of the Avatr 07, which start at 219,900 yuan (30,300 USD).
