If you were interested in picking up the electric Ram 1500 REV pickup, you’re going to have to wait a bit. Slowing EV demand, specifically for half-ton electric pickups, has led the automaker to change the rollout plans for its pair of electrified trucks. The electric Ram REV is now delayed until 2026, while the range-extender hybrid Ram 1500 Ramcharger will take its place and launch in 2025 first instead.
In a release, Ram says that a few factors contributed to the brand rearranging its launch timetable for the two trucks. “The decision to launch Ramcharger first was driven by overwhelming consumer interest, maintaining a competitive advantage in the technology and slowing industry demand for half-ton BEV pickups,” the release reads.
Ram may be on to something. Despite brands like Rivian, Ford and Chevy having solid entries in the electric pickup market, there aren’t that many people clamoring to buy a $70,000-$100,000 electric pickup. To put that into perspective, data from S&P Global shows in July 2024, the best selling electric pickup was the Tesla Cybertruck with 5,175 sales. That number is more than all other electric pickup trucks combined. It’s safe to say that Ram may be reading the room correctly.
More buyers may go for the Ramcharger, which is now launching in the first half of 2025. The plug-in pickup pairs a 92-kWh battery, two electric motors and Stellantis’ 3.6-liter V6 that works as an on-board generator. The resulting specs are impressive: 663 horsepower, 615 pound-feet of torque and a 14,000-pound towing capacity. With a whopping 690 miles of range, the Ramcharger will also be the longest-range electrified pickup on the market.
