The Xiaomi YU7 has been spied testing without camouflage. These pictures are the first look at what the SUV looks like from the side. According to Xiaomi founder Lei Jun the car should be called Y-U-7.
For an EV, the car has a very long front, with the cabin only starting a long way from the front wheel. Although there is a definite similarity with the Ferrari Purosangue, it is perhaps not as great as was once thought. The car also looks really quite like an SUV version of the Xiaomi SU7.
It is a relatively large car with dimensions of 4999, 1996, 1600 mm (l/w/h), and the wheelbase is 3000mm. So far, only a dual motor has been declared in the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology listings, and that weighs 2405 kg.
Power comes from a front-mounted 220 kW motor and a rear 288 kW motor, providing a total power of 508 kW (681 hp). These can propel the Xiaomi YU7 to a top speed of 253 km/h. There will likely be a single-motor version as well to help bring starting costs down.
As declared, the dual motor version will get an NMC battery supplied by CATL. In the case of the Standard trim level of the SU7, it uses a cheaper lithium iron phosphate blade battery from BYD, and it is likely that this will make an appearance on the cheapest model of the YU 7 as well to make starting prices more affordable.
It was previously believed that sales of the YU 7 would begin around March, but as we reported, this would cause problems with capacity due to the second phase of Xiaomiβs factory only being completed later in the year. We now know that, indeed, sales of the YU 7 will begin in 2025. This will allow Xiaomi time to complete the factory.
An added advantage of declaring the car early is that Xiaomi can now get on with testing the car in earnest without so much interest from spy photographers.
