GM Trucks, Ford F-Series and Toyota Tundra Sales Grow Significantly; GM Is On Top and Ram Is Down (Sales Report)

Full-size pickup trucks and their heavy-duty versions enjoy their popularity increase and growing sales numbers in 2024 and in Q4. There are two exceptions. The Ram trucks sales went down significantly (by -16.1%), and the Nissan Titan production was discontinued this year. Here are all the details. Let’s dig in!

There is a big controversy about the following statement. Which pickup truck is the best selling in the country? Ford will say that the F-Series continues to be the best selling truck and vehicle in the country. GM will tell you that Chevrolet and GMC pickup truck combined are the best selling. Take a look at the table below.

While the F-Series is indeed the best-selling name plate, GM sells more pickup trucks than any other company. When you combine the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra sales, GM sold 874,679 pickups last year. Ford sold 765,649 F-Series in 2024. Ford F-Series made huge gains in Q4 2024, growing by 21.1%. This fight will continue for many years to come.

If you focus on the electric pickup sales, they are growing and the Ford F-150 Lightning is currently near the top. We do not know exactly how many EV pickup trucks Tesla, Rivian, or GMC Hummer sold. They either report these numbers at a later date or combine their numbers with other vehicles in their lineup.

Since General Motors breaks our their numbers by pickup truck classification, we can take a closer look below. Ford and Ram do not separate their full-size and heavy-duty truck sales numbers.

GMC Sierra pickup trucks are growing across the board: light duty, heavy duty, and electric. The Silverado 1500 is struggling (selling less than last year), while Silverado HD is growing by 7%.
